Just curious to see what everyone thought about the bill passing and what effect it will have on the Daytona show this year.

I guess all of the animals on the list will not be at the show. What kind of impact, in your opinion, will it have on the show.

Seems it'll be a ball python, boa and various other colubrids show as far as snakes are concerned.

    Thoughts?????

For the last couple of years many of the breeders that do take some of the "Bigger" snakes have been dropping out of going..

If the National Reptile Breeders Expo wants to survive past 2011 they need to look at moving it to a new city..

I vote for Atlanta or Jackson, Ms. they are big City's and not quite as far of a drive for 99.995% of the South East as Daytona is..

    Just my two cents..

I'd be up for Atlanta... :D The only thing then then is no corn snakes/indigos/eastern kings or milks.

But on a more serious note, I agree. With the passing of the new bill a large part of the reptile community is being excluded and I feel that in the best interest in the show it may need to move to a less restricted state.

If they want to keep it a beach location - they should look at Myrtle Beach, SC. SC is very liberal in their reptile laws, it makes the most sense for most breeders.

I would love to have it in Atlanta, but the no indigenous non-venomous snakes law would alienate just as many colubrid breeders as big snake breeders.

I agree that they need to move it to another city. I've never been, but am planning on going this year.

I've heard the show has gone down hill for the past several years, and this might be the blow that does it in or at least make it change locations.

Texas baby! The only thing we have here is a pretty lax permit law that only covers non-native venomous and Burms, Annies, retics, Afrocks and I believe Indian pythons is the other. Other than that, fair game as long as it doesn't violate a city ordinance.

Atlanta won't work. Georgia has to many negative rules and regulations regarding Reptiles. Permits, can't sell native (including any subspecies or color morphs) and just to much of a congested area for me.
I would vote for SC as well.
That state is considered Herp friendly.
I fear Daytona will be even worse this year then last.
    I had 6 tables in 2009. I'll have 0 in 2010.

Nashville Tn. Making sure to have it the last weekend of the Knob Creek Machine Gun shoot. That way I can kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

Machine guns and Ball Pythons, what could be better? :salute::banana:

I agree! South Carolina would be a good choice, but instead of Myrtle Beach I would think Charleston would be a better choice. It's a larger city, beaches nearby, more centrally located for surrounding states. Myrtle Beach seems to only want to be known as a retiree, family, golfers paradise, which is why they no longer have Bike Week there. I just think Charleston would be more open to a weekend influx of reptile enthusiasts than MB would be. I may be wrong though... :confuzd:

There will never be a large (National) show in Tennessee. They can't even get a small monthly show there to work.
Tennessee is negative on Herps in general and natives, venomous, exotics as a rule.
Tennessee is in the NO colum. sorry.

I vote Topeka, KS. Wooot! There are plenty of cow pastures around here, and plenty of room. Lol. Just not during tornado season, floods, or our freak lightning storms :)

Not to hijack this thread but does anybody know why we STILL don't have a vendor's list for the Daytona show?!?!? It says there's one on the site but no link. Kind of frustrated as I'd like to start gameplanning for it and see who is attending that might have what I'm looking for.

I emailed Wayne Hill about that and he says that he will be putting up the list very soon. He is finishing up with the Expo Program and Expo Schedule. He doesn't like to put something up unless it is completely done.

Hopefully It is up within the next few weeks.

It may be because some breeders are dropping out, They do not want to travel hundreds of miles with reptiles that they cannot sell.
