Re: Question about smoking
Well obviously it isn't GOOD for the animal. Its not even good for people!
I would just keep the smoke away from the animals. Do it in another room or move the animal to a smoke free room.
Re: Question about smoking
Its bad for any animal. Its been proven that excessive smoking and burning of candles is actually vey deadly to pet birds. As well as cooking in non-stick pans.
Knowing that. Would you want to risk it with a tiny little reptile? I wouldnt. I don't smoke in my house at all so none of my animals are exposed to it. I imagine many people do. When I did smoke in my house it was never near any animals. I also had a fan going and a window open since I myself can't stand the second hand smoke.

Your friend sounds like a crackhead
Re: Question about smoking
tell him he should quit or if he has to smoke do it outside. I'm sure his house probably reeks. ugh
Re: Question about smoking
Bad for people, bad for any other animal. But, it's his snake and his choice, and sadly, neither you nor any of us can do anything about it.
Re: Question about smoking
defo not good :colbert: all my family are smokers but no1 smokes in the house apart from the kitchen
Re: Question about smoking
I am also a smoker, but do not smoke in the house. I also will not handle my snake after smoking without washing my hands and using antibacterial gel. I have heard that the nicotine on your fingers can even been bad for them. Hope your friend reconsiders his smoking habits.
Re: Question about smoking
Could possibly run the risk of leading to an RI
Re: Question about smoking
They only have one working lung as it is and their metabolism is way slower than ours. I hardly see how it can be harmless.
Re: Question about smoking
What kind of "smoke" are we talking about? :D
Re: Question about smoking
He needs to consider the long term consequences as well. My father was a life long smoker. When he died we took the furniture he had in the house and cleaned it, The built up tar and nicotine would make you sick. We literally changed the look of the furniture when we were done. This same stuff gets in the animals bedding, on the glass, the bottom of the aquarium, his hands, and the animal itself. So not only is he breathing the smoke he is living in the toxic mess it leaves.

Ive been asked hundreds of times by my friends if its possible to get my snakes... well feeling good. I figured its probably dangerous but definitely stupid. Sounds like your friends and my friends would get along haha.
Re: Question about smoking
ANY type of smoke from incense, candles, cigarettes, or illegal drugs can be harmful to the reptile.
This is because they are extremely prone to respiratory infections because they lack the ability to cough out waste. The animal could become extremely ill from the smoke particles because it cannot cough them out like many people do when they experience that "smokers cough".
It's harmful in that way, but it will also severely mess with the animals senses. Instinct says that smoke is a sign of a fire, and a sign of danger. When the animal smells that smoke it will become stressed and attempt to flee from the area. It can't really do that in a cage.. so it will further be stressed from the overwhelming smoke smell and possibly expect its demise.
So in other words, your friend is being extremely selfish and uncaring towards this animal.

Agreed. If you don't give a crap about yourself to not smoke, at LEAST give respect to others, even animals. Some people treat their pets as objects instead of precious life.
Re: Question about smoking
No it aint good,of course not. If he has kids does he sit next to them and smoke? Same thing.
