I need help with the breeding
So I have a Normal big girl thats 1500 grams black pastel male at 466grams a mojave at 800+grams and a low white pied male at 430grams. I strated trying to put my mojave in with my normal girl in late Jan. Nothing has happend! I didnt cool none of my guys to let you know but my girl was cooled. All my big girl does is wag her tail and urinate EVERYWHERE. I mean I even try'd my young guys in with her same thing happends. Just need some tips guys. Plus I know there has to be people that breed on the off season. It seems what ever I do it doesnt work for me :(
Re: I need help with the breeding
how long are you leaving the males in with the females? Tail wagging is usually a good sign she is wanting to mate, you just need to make sure you are leaving the males in for usually 3 days on and 3 days off usually trying to feed both male and female in that time off... that way they dont get worn out... and sometimes it takes a few weeks of doing this before you will notice them locking and sometimes you might not even see them locking...
Re: I need help with the breeding
I'd wait until next season.
Your female is border line weight. Big enough, yes. But she will probably give you a better clutch if you feed her good and try breeding in the fall. IMO
I start pairing on November 1st.
Re: I need help with the breeding
2ays is the longest I guess I was hoping it would happend automatic. Sometimes weeks sounds like a long time but might need to try it. I just know my male was 940 and now hes like 800 and something. Picky eater that guy has turned to be for me. He ate about a week ago but he will sometimes go a month with out food. Just hope that doesnt make it harder. As far as I know this gurl gave out a nice clutch of 7 only 5 hatched, five eggs is good enough for her. What about the young guys think I should leave them in for awhile also and see what happens?
Re: I need help with the breeding
When did your female last lay eggs?
Did your male become a picky eater after you started pairing him?
Re: I need help with the breeding
Ive heard of some breeders taking a sperm plug from another male and using that to get him in the mood by making him think if he doesnt another male will. I could be wrong but I believe that they rub the plug on the neck of the female. Also Personally I believe that they are ready when they start producing sperm plugs.
Re: I need help with the breeding
I've also heard of putting another male's shed skin in with the pair to get a slow starter interested.
Worth a shot, I guess.
Re: I need help with the breeding
She bred and layed last season not this one that just passed. He became a picky eater b4 the breeding I thought he was telling me he loved what he smelled. Never got to see sperm plugs at least not in my mojave. Like I said I never let him stay with her for a week or weeks at a time, just wondering if I do that do I pull the hides and clean the urine she leaves in there or just leave everything in there???

Your male seems like hes on the younger side too. That sometimes will have an effect when it comes to breeding. Seems like the problem lies with your male. The male I bred to my female late in the season this year was the same age as her. No problems and expecting eggs to drop any day now.
Also, you are kind of going against the grain in trying to breed in the off season. Some ppl can breed out of season, but the success storys I heard about they were from full adults males averaging in the good 1400-1800 gram range. I wouldn't bother with trying to breed in the off season and just wait till Nov. You will have much better luck and the odds more in your favor.
Re: I need help with the breeding
just thought I would gather info so I know what to do better next time I go for it.

dont leave them together for weeks... what i meant was put the male with the female for 3 days and then take the male out for 3 days... do this repeating for weeks at a time... but dont just leave the male in with the female for weeks at a time...

oh ok, I get it now.
Re: I need help with the breeding
So do I clean up the urine when the female is in with the male or should I leave that also in for three days at a time? Do you pull hides out and water?
Re: I need help with the breeding
Leave the urates and water. The hides are up to you, I don't use hides at all and so far so good.
The urates may help stimulate the male into breeding. I usually slack off when it comes to cleaning around breeding season. I want the boys to smell the girls and get to business.
As was stated earlier it seems to be the male that's the problem. Your female seems receptive but the male is either not interested or not sure what to do.
Again I would wait till the fall and spend the summer beefing up the girl/girls that you have and get them ready for the comming season.

Good luck,
Gavin.
Re: I need help with the breeding
It is not urine she is spreading around. It is actually her speading her scent from her scent glands!
Re: I need help with the breeding
would they stop tail wagging if in shed? Also would males not try to breed if they are in shed???
