    Mystic question
Have these been bred to a Butter or Lesser and if so, did it produce a Lucy?

As far as I know only the Mojo X Mystic has been bred and it made a Mystic Potion

I am pretty sure Mystic x Lesser makes a Blue Eyed Lucy. I might get to find out for sure, it was my last breeding, and a last minute decision....might get eggs, might not.

My point is how can this be said to be another line of Phantom if it hasn't been bred to a Lesser or Butter and produced a Lucy? I know the super looks like a Super Phantom but since the Mojave didn't produce a Lucy, are we sure it will produce a Lucy when bred to the Lesser or Butter? I've heard the Phantom hasn't been bred to a Mojave but can someone confirm this? Would be interested to see if that produces something like the Potion or a Lucy.

Is it safe to assume that the Mystic has not produced a blue eyed lucy and the Phantom has not produced a potion yet? If so, are we really sure these are the same genes? It seems that while the supers look different, the fact that the Mystic/Mojave breeding did not produce a lucy puts a question mark on whether these are the same genes or just similar genes. I'm looking at buying a Mystic this year but would be nice to know if they are definitely a different line of Phantom first.

So far phantom and mystic have different names because we can't yet be absolutely certain they are the same thing. I haven't seen any good evidence yet that they aren't the same but there have been enough breedings so far to lean toward them being the same. Should find out more this year as phantom X mojave eggs hatch. Who knows, there might even be a mystic X lesser breeding out there by now.

It continues to amaze me how there can be so many different versions of this gene. Even if mystic and phantom are the same allele like many believe that lesser and butter are the same there are still a BUNCH. I'm counting ...

    1. Lesser/Butter
    2. Mojave
    3. Phantom/Mystic
    4. Mocha
    5. Vin Russo
    6. Special
    7. Hidden

And I've probably forgotten something and who knows what isn't named yet. Marshall Van Thorre has a snake that has so far proven to produce leucistic combined with lesser and something maybe new combined with mojave (last I heard not sure if it will end up looking like the mojave\\special combo crystal or the mojave\\mystic combo mystic potion or something else). I even got eggs last night from mojave to a ch that I'm hoping proves to be something like a mystic.

But just looking at the 7 above (or 9 if the two name groupings aren't right) we have tons (well 5,040 if I calculated right) of potential allele pairings. Just wonder what could be going on dna wise to make at least 7 different versions of this gene. Actually 8 counting the normal version.

So Hypnotic, do you already own a phantom and want to know if you also need a mystic to complete the set? I'd love to have them all some day, but at the rate new versions are being added it will take me a while!

I do not have a Phantom or Mystic but am looking at adding a male Mystic this year. I already have the Mojave and Lesser genes in the collection (but all females). What I'm hoping is that the Mystic male can be used to produce lucies the way the Phantom is (when bred to a Lesser) so that I don't have to add a male Lesser. At this point I could go with a male Phantom and know for sure but end up spending quite a bit more for the same gene if the Mystic will do the same thing. Hence my question. Then again, if they don't do the same thing in all combos, I'll probably end up wanting both anyway. Yeah, gotta love ball python genetics. Sometimes you end up with something completely unexpected. I'm guessing the Mystic/Mojave pairing was expected to produce lucies but I doubt anybody complained when it didn't. I know I wouldn't :D

My main goal for buying a Phantom was to produce the Opal Diamonds. Opal Diamonds are Het. Russos X Phantom. Then I found out that the Phantom X Mojave makes the Passions or potions. I wonder if mystics bred to white diamond stuff will result in the Opal Diamonds. I think they are the same snake but that is just my opinion. I would not doubt breeding a Lesser X Mystic would produce BEL.

I still love the Opal Diamonds!!!

Nothing any weirder than the 18 different mutations in the Agouti locus for Mus musculus - it's just a bunch of variations that don't "break" how the snake works, so they're able to perpetuate.
