Re: Anyone use a Hook???
I use a hook all the time. I hook train all of my snakes. They learn that when I use the hook to remove them from their enclosure, that I am going to handle them. I have only been bit once, which was by a gravid female at night. I wasn't using my hook at the time.

I personally dont. I would feel silly using a hook for a BP. Thats just me though.

I use mine mostly for my boas, and the majority of my collection is boas. There is one adult ball girl that I use a hook for occasionally. It really depends on her disposition when I open her tub. I also normally use it for the ball hatchlings to get them used to it.

Re: Anyone use a Hook???
I also "Hook Train" my snakes as well my boas more than my BP's though. I do have a couple Bp's that I use the hook for because they are slightly cage aggressive and frankly I have a clean record when it comes to being bit and I would like to keep it that way

I had great fun building a hook but have never used it. I only have a BP and it seems silly he has never show any aggression toward me or anyone else.

Yeah. Although I have seen plenty of BP snake rooms with both hooks and tongs.
Then again I've also seen poodles wearing spiked collars.........
You could always scratch your back with it.

I don't own a hook yet. May get one so I can use it to pull the tubs out of a rack on feeding day.

Re: Anyone use a Hook???
I have a nice snake hook. I use it as a tap-stick when some of the snakes decide open bin = feedin's, and I just want to clean their cage. I use it to hook out snakes that are occasionally aggressive, and I sometimes use it for big girls on eggs.
I don't have to use it very often, but it's nice to have it on hand when I do.

Re: Anyone use a Hook???
got a home made hook it mostly used to help me get off the ground, but ineed to get a real hook/tongs before I get bit again by a vemonous snake. I don;'t really look at them I just reach in and grab the snakes when I do the snake calls.

Yep. For a big Burm and one of the Retics. Never for a BP though.

Mostly the boas get hooked and sometimes the BP when he's cranky...

Re: Anyone use a Hook???
I do at work, sometimes the snakes have a crazy feed response where they come barreling out of the cage. A warm hand feels like prey, cool hook feels more natural I guess. I can use my hands after though, if I need to take them out. One boa is a little pissy, but he's alright once he's out. ~Caylan.S.~

Re: Anyone use a Hook???
I have a few big girls that come out of the tub around 18 inches mouth wide open head going side to side looking for food. They could use the hook. I wish all my snakes had a feeding response like that!

Re: Anyone use a Hook???
looking to get a hook just for kicks, I mean I do have an aggressive little girl right now but I just use my hands. I will probably get a hook at the next herp show just in case since I am going to start breeding and don't want to get tagged when collecting eggs.
