    A worried owner.
I know this is probably nothing to worry about but I figured I would post anyways just to make sure nothing is wrong with her. Her Enclosure: Humidity is 48-50% normal. The temp dropped 3 days ago because the power went out and it slowly climbing back up. Im worried because she just shed and pooped and all that good stuff 4 days ago. I fed her the weekly mouse she gets only this time she has not been in either of her hides since. Every thing is clean. No poops in the hides or anything like that. She is just curled up in the corner of the cold side. She has been there for 2 full days and hasnt moved. Is this normal? I am concerned. She is NEVER outside of her hide unless she is scoping out her water or just after she craps. The temp in there right now is around 80 degress which I know is still a bit low but there is nothing I can do until it warms back up to its normal temp. I see no signs of RI, she is acting fine when handled. Just worried that she is in the corner. Is this normal? Tips appreciated.

As long as she is eating and not puking it back up, its not really a big deal. You can try putting the hide over the snake and see if that convinces her to use them again.

Why is it taking so long to heat the tank back up? Heating devices don't take more then a few hours to get back up to temp. 3 days is a bit excessive.

Yeah it should not be taking that long just to heat up. Are you using flexwatt?

It might be stress from the power going out and the sudden drop in temp. I know when I did something that was stressful to my snake, she wouldn't use her hides at all for a day or so, and just curl up in the corner of her cool side as well.
Just my own two cents being thrown out there due to my own observation on my snake.

What do you guys recommend for keeping a steady air temp in the enclosure? I have a UTH under one of her hides now. I want to try something new. Any suggestions?

For my set up, I use a UTH for her warm side, and one of those ceramic non-light emitting lights to help with her cool side. And the mix of the two are very nice. And I noticed that since I switched to the ceramic light, I don't struggle as much to try and keep up the humidity (though I still have to use a wet towel).

I am not using a Flexwatt. Where can you pick that up?

What kind of thermostat are you using? If you are using a digital thermostat, it is possible, depending on how long the power was out, that it reverted back to default settings. Check it and make sure...

Ah ok. May have been a power surge then. I've never used that one you linked to above, so I don't really have any input on it...

If you click on the "Search" function in the dark blue header bar at the top of the page and type in BAH-1000, it will pull up approximately 70 threads in which it is mentioned or discussed. You can try searching "thermostats" for broader results. I know there is one available from Amazon that a few members seem to like...

uh well a thermostat doesn't heat anything....

A thermostat controls the temperature of the UTH. You always need a thermostat or at least a rheostat when using UTHs or flexwatt.

That is what the thermostat does. What is wrong with your air temps?

they are only around 70-80 degrees. I was told they need to be around 90. Is that correct?

the hot spot in which the snake lies needs to be around 90-94. the ambient air temp is fine at 80. hell my snakes have a ambient air temp of 77 all hte time and they do fine.

You seem a bit misinformed. Read the caresheet. Link is in my sig. If you buy Flexwatt from reptilebasics.com, they will wire it up for free. You just have to pay like five bucks for the clips and it's still phenomenally cheaper than a single UTH. For thermostats, I've got my eye on the herpstat. It's by spyder robotics, and it's proportional. Lots of fancy features for a thermostat, too. Google it. To make sure your temperatures are correct, use a digital thermometer with a probe. There's a cheap accurite that everyone trusts. About $12. Put the probe on the hottest place the snake can get to inside the enclosure. (On the glass under the substrate under the hot hide.) Set the thermostat according to this reading. Don't let it go over 95.

I'm sorry if you already know all this, it's just a few things you've said make it look like you need a little help. I'm just makin sure things are best for your snake.
