It's a Colombian Black and White (Tupinambis teguixin). Nice looking little guy/girl. :)

I'm thinking that may just be a plain old Gold Tegu, not a black and white at all.

If so, I'd recommend you pass on that one and get a real black and white.

Now that you mention it, it does look like it could be a gold, I just glanced at it with the question.

Either way, not a argentine black-and-white.

I have heard from Bobby at Varnyard Herps to stay away from Columbian Tegus as they are much more fiesty and harder to train to be more interactive. ?? I have no idea but seeing how he is a leading tegu breeder with a good reputation....I tend to listen. :D Hope that helps you out.

Colombian Golds are the same species as a Colombian Black and Whites. It's a Gold color morph though. :)

Either way, it's a Colombian. They tend to be less friendly, but they are beautiful animals.

how do you guys "differentiate" an argentine black & white tegu and a colombian tegu?

i was really hoping it was an argentine due to the more friendlier & almost everyone say to get an argie instead of a colombian.

Colombian Tegus only have one loreal scale, while the Argentine has two. Argentine Tegus are also much larger, they are considered the giant Tegu as they are the largest Tegu in the world. Argentine Tegus have beaded scales while Colombians have smooth scales. Argentine Tegus are broader and the head structure is quite a bit different. It's easy to tell when you see both in person and can make a comparison between the species.

Did you get it yet? Or were you just asking questions about an animal you were interested in?
