Water bowl poll
what types of bowls do you like and why:)
-
Re: Water bowl poll
I use plastic croc bowls in my rack. It's easy enough to clean them once a week only having 4 snakes. If I ever get a large enough collection I'll switch to the disposable deli cups.
-
Re: Water bowl poll
I mostly use ceramic, cause I can get them for $1, although I have one girl that has a crystal watering dish
-
Re: Water bowl poll
4" PVC cap and an 8oz deli cup..I got tired of washing 100+ bowls every week.. Now I just refill the deli cup and toss them in the recycle bin after two refills.

When/ if I acquire as many as you, I believe I'll switch over also :P

We're only in the 40's, but went the same way after a couple years of the water-bowl washing misery.

Re: Water bowl poll
I personally like using ceramic because it's harder for the snake to tip it over, but I also like using plastic dog dishes and those work pretty well for me.
-
Re: Water bowl poll
Ceramic because they dont fall over as much, used to do dog bowls untill i had a snake get stuck in one lol
-
Re: Water bowl poll
I use ceramic bowls, plastic water bowl/hides and even 1 set up for deli cups. And I only have 8 snakes.
-
Re: Water bowl poll
ceramic just for the weight pluss i only have the one snake the now so its no problem washing it all the time lol
-
Re: Water bowl poll
I use these thick plastic rock looking water bowls. I'm not sure if they are dishwasher safe or not, but I only have 4 to clean and refill, so it isn't that much of a chore...
-
Re: Water bowl poll
I like ceramic the best for my redtail and my bigger normal ball they got ceramic dog bowles. My blood he has ceramic and my lil baby normal ball has a plastic groovy water dish, ceramic is bye far my choice.
-
Re: Water bowl poll
Heavy bodied ceramic ones because they don't spill so much! One day I'm going to make it to the pottery to make some of my own with the base wider than the rim. I'm tired of wet newspaper!

Re: Water bowl poll
Over the years we've used the plastic crock and the pvc with deli cups. Now we're gradually switching to ceramic crocks for our water bowls. We've found that it is less of a pain to wash the ceramic bowls then it is to keep replacing the aspen and refilling the bowls when the snakes turn over the other types (plastic crock, pvc) and the water spills out.

Re: Water bowl poll
i use two of those zoo-med reptile bowl rock looking thingy's. I picked them up at a show for $2 each rather than the $15 petsmart sell em for.
-
Re: Water bowl poll
Ceramic cause of the weight factor.
-
Re: Water bowl poll
It depends on the humidity.
During seasons when humidity is low, I use the Zoomed Repti Rock water dish put half-way over the heater.
When humidity is high, I use the Exo-terra Water Dish.
I found that even when the Exo-terra water dish is on top of the heater, it doesn't raise the humidity by much. And I also found that the Zoomed Repti Rock raises the humidity even if it's not on the heater.
I only have 4 snakes and they're all on display vivariums. Or was. One of them is currently maternally incubating in a sterilite bin.

Re: Water bowl poll
I use ceramic and I never had a tip over! They are really easy to clean!

Re: Water bowl poll
If a bowl is tipoverable my big girls will tip it :P heavy or not.
I use ceramic mostly and it keeps the spills to a minimum but they still can and will occasionally tip them.
I have an adult male yellow belly that seems to love to tip his bowl
-
Re: Water bowl poll
ceramic tends to not tip over nearly as much as plastic but im using plastic right now because I got ashtrays to use as bowls for some hatchlings for cheap lol
-
Re: Water bowl poll
I use the ceramic dog bowls because they are heavy enough they dont get tipped over :P
-
Re: Water bowl poll
I use mostly plastic, some ceramic, and I have started using these melamine cat bowls with a wide bottom and a rubber ring on the bottom... keeps them from flipping it.
-
Re: Water bowl poll
i have a viv so i use zoomed or reptile basics ceramic pretty bowls lol
-
Re: Water bowl poll
Mostly plastic--Target sells these little dishes for kittens or something that are exactly the right size to fit in my hatchling bins. They're very smooth on the edges and underside, and have 'fingerholds' that a snake can crawl under, so putting one in the back of the bin makes a water bowl that doubles as a hide. Because the bins are low, they can't flip them. Perfect for hatchlings.
I'm still working out the best solutions for the adults, but I have a range of dishes and bowls.

Re: Water bowl poll
I'm using ceramic for now. I like the weight and I get them cheap!
-
Re: Water bowl poll
i just use a sterilite thats big enough for her to soak in!
-
Re: Water bowl poll
I use the plastic with Microban "technology". They are about $5 at walmart for the medium and $7 or so for the one large that I needed.
-
Re: Water bowl poll
Ceramic, Bowl doesn't tip over easily and I can wash in dishwasher. (needs to be rinsed afterwards, avoids soapy drinking water LOL)
-
Re: Water bowl poll
I like the big plastic corner bowls made for reptiles in my cages, because they are space efficient, nice-looking and easy to wash in the dishwasher. For my racks I use those little glass Pyrex dishes, because they are also easy to wash in the dishwasher and don't tip over easily.

Re: Water bowl poll
Ceramic. Tipping issues, and less trash created than disposable plastic cups.
I can't believe how much waste some people make just watering their snakes, I'd thing a big collection would be a reason to NOT use disposable cups.

yeah im in the 40s now to and im not gonna lie im getting quite sick of washing water bowls. When it was just 5 snakes it wasnt bad. But 40 plus can get real annoying real fast hahah.
-
Re: Water bowl poll
I use plastic because they look nice.
-
Re: Water bowl poll
I don't have a large collection (only 10 snakes), so I prefer the ceramic. They're easy to keep clean, heavier, tipless, and much more sanitary. Unless you use the throwaway deli cup system, plastic is more likely to harbor bacteria, IMO.
-
i got 2 of those exoterra ones, whatever thats made of
-
Re: Water bowl poll
I use heavy plastic dog bowls.

Can you post a pic of this setup? With my collection growing quicker by the month...I am getting tired of cleaning ceramic bowls already.
Thanks!

Big heavy ceramic dog bowl :)

Where is everybody getting these $1 or cheap ceramic water bowls?
