I think I see five or six lumps, but that's awesome that you can take that.

I don't think it was a very smart idea of taking an X-ray of a pregnant female, there is a good reason why they make sure they do not use X-rays on pregnant humans, just saying cool pic none the less.

It's my understanding that reptiles don't show the sensitivity to radiation that humans do. I've heard of iguanas with cancer but not other reptiles. I'm sure now that I said that someone is going to pop in and prove me completely wrong. If I am wrong, someone please feel free to correct me.

Re: so i took a x ray... can u count the eggs?
Certainly, all reptiles can develop cancer.
Radiation sensitivity is lower in reptiles than mammals. (The general sensitivity progression is mammals, birds, fish, amphibans and reptiles, insects, etc--some higher plants are in between birds and fish).
Embryonic and juvenile organisms are always more sensitive to radiation than adults...so, no, I probably wouldn't want to X-ray a pregnant female anything. Just in case. It'll probably be fine, but one wrong particle in the wrong place, and you lose a hatchling, or wind up with a deformity.

Vets take x rays of pregnant animals all the time. They like to know how many are in there in case they dont come out.
I am gonna say 6

WRONG! Have you ever seen the new godzilla movie? Radiation is what created godzilla!
To the OP - be careful man. Tomorrow you might wake up and have an 80 foot, 10,000 pound snake curled up around your bed

Re: so i took a x ray... can u count the eggs?
Very cool Pics! I see 7 (I think).
Vets do take x-rays of prego dogs and such but I personally prefer sonograms if a machine is available.

Wow cool picture!! You are just on a roll right now!! ;) By the way I counted 6 put the end of the pic is a little cut off.

Re: so i took a x ray... can u count the eggs?
they do X ray preggo dogs and cats but only after a certain period of time i know dogs are 55 days out of 63 day of gestation. i wouldnt have done the x ray its harmful, and hopefully nothing happens to the babies i could very well affect the females reproductive organs... but good luck

Re: so i took a x ray... can u count the eggs?
i will let u know if any deformities come out... im sure they will be fine. as for the sonogram... we didnt have one or i would have used that insted of a x-ray. also note i will be hatching this in a hoovabator.. also risky lol but im sure they will be fine. (i dont want to hook up my gigantic incubator for one clutch)

Re: so i took a x ray... can u count the eggs?
Shane if i was you i wouldnt use a hovabator i wouldnt evne risk it with that cluthc especially.

Not sure about that. Vets do ultrasounds all the time on pregnant animals, but I would be surprised if they do xrays very often.

I come from a Veterinarian family but I am not in that field.
But as far as I know, they shouldn't take XRay of them unless there is a risk to the animal.
You try to save the animal first, then the babies. At least, that's my opinion, just like it should be for humans.

Re: so i took a x ray... can u count the eggs?
My buddy Jesse actually just picked up a book that has this discussion in it. He read it aloud on the way home from the Hamburg show, and its really bad what happened to the eggs. It was done on Blood Pythons. A female was gravid, became egg bound, meaning the eggs were stuck. They took an X-Ray at day 48, counted the eggs and saw that they were indeed due to drop anyday. She turned out to drop 5-6 days after the X-ray, and the babies came out with there internal organs on the outside, partially underdeveloped, stillborn, and kink. This is just a summary of what I remember, I was sorta high on Perc's due to a shoulder injury, but tomorrow when I talk to him I'll get the exact book and page so you can read it for yourself. You also work for a vet, he should have pre-warned you before you did it. Hopefully its a rarity, and it doesnt affect your eggs! Very Cool picture though, good luck with the hatchlings!

i do work at a vet, with 4 doctors. one of the doctors is also a vet at NAU university (used to also keep boas). They said that the odds are very little that it would have ill affect. Also the person who took the X ray of the blood python and it having deformed babbies, it prob was a incubation problem and not the x ray because the babbies would have already developed the internal organs on the outside (this doesnt happen in 5 days when the blood is due to lay). Also kinking is another sign of the incubation temps being bad. Sure there is some risk taking a x-ray but the most u will ever hear is "he said she said" stuff and as everyone knows people are overdramatic and the majority of the time they dont even know what the heck their talking about and with little or no experience. ill keep everyone updated because shes due to lay VERY soon.
