Can I get your opinions on this guy?

What do you think about this guy? He's a cute little pastel I've been thinking about getting. He was produced by Jeff Horne. I like his pattern and lack thereof but I'm wondering what sort of coloration I might be able to expect from him. I know you can't predict the future with these guys but I know that many of you have had more experience seeing pastels' progress from hatchling to adult and might have some insight here.

Color-wise, he's not going to be super yellow but he should stay pretty light because his head is lighter. Any dark areas on his back will turn brown though.

Yeah, he has some beautiful babies. I had my eye on a particular male but it has already sold.. Then this little guy shed and he looks so different from the patterns I usually see.

He's going to be dark, but that pattern is killer. I would definitely say he's worth it.

Definite buy in my option. The dark orange will turn brown, but he should stay fairly light, and that pattern is just wicked.:gj:

I wouldn't hesitate to buy that animal based strictly upon pattern.

From just looking at the one picture I would think he's going to brown out like most pastels. But, his pattern is going to make up for that later in life. He may not brown out at all, you never know.

He would make killer (pattern) Bees! Color wise im afraid to say wont be the best on this little guy, but breed him to some reduced high gold females and perfect the line :gj: That is if you got him.

I'm leaning towards picking him up if I ever hear back from Jeff H. :) If I get him, I'll definitely take plenty of pics to see how he develops over time.

Like others stated he probably will darken up a bit but WOW that pattern is off the charts....LOVE IT!!

Holy mumble-dy mumps! There's no way that's just a pastel--there has GOT to be something else going on there. Buy him! And introduce him to several nice females next year! I can't wait to see what kind of babies he makes.

His parents seem fairly normal to me. The dad is a very clean, but dark, pastel. Mom looks like every normal I've ever seen. Whether his particular look is genetic or not, he's just too cool. I put a deposit on him so now I just have to wait for him to feed well and for seller to finish getting certified with FedEx because of the issues of late with SYR.

It looks like he has some spider in there also.

His pattern is unique, but he's going to be a very brown boy as an adult. Everywhere you see orange - that's going to turn brown. Just decide what you're going for - a bright pastel (he won't be) or a cool patterned one (he is).

It doesn't. If it did, it would be a bumblebee. BPs don't inherit just some of a morph, unless it's a recessive.

I'd buy that pastel in an instant. His color isn't great, but the pattern far outweighs it IMO.

If he didn't have that pattern, I'd probably pass on him because I would like to have a bright pastel... but I'm willing to wait and pair this little guy with a nice female and try to get a bright pastel baby later on that might (hopefully) look a bit like him.


Since he's likely to grow up very browned out, how does that translate if I paired him up with another pastel? Is there such a thing as an "ugly" super pastel? :oops:

I just received this guy this morning but there's something wrong with him. He has a hard knot/bump on his back where the tail meets the body. I've never seen or dealt with anything like this before. Can I get your opinions on what would cause this? Would this adversely affect his ability to breed in the future? According to his feeding card he's been feeding well. I contacted the seller and he says he never noticed it before. Could this have happened during shipping? I was really looking forward to using this guy in future breeding projects and this knot/bump thing has me concerned. :(

That looks like a serious injury poor little guy :(.Not sure if that will prevent him from breeding or not

I got more pics of this guy and I'm pretty sure it's not an injury. After looking closer at his belly, I think this may have happened during incubation and went unnoticed after he hatched. If that's the case and he's still eating, drinking, and voiding himself do you think he would ok in the longrun or should I send him back?

On a possitve note...he sure is beautiful :gj:

I'm going to keep him and hope for the best. He acts like any other baby ball I've had in my care. He's just got that funky kink on his lower back. Because I want to keep him, the seller is going to give me a partial refund and an additional credit towards a future purchase.

He's a pretty boy. I'm thinking that's a kink from incubation - which might explain his crazy pattern as well. Just a theory though. I think he'll be fine!

He is very gorgeous. Hopefully he'll breed just fine for you. I'm in love with that white splat on his head, as well as that crazy blushing he has going on. Good luck and keep us updated!
