    My girl still won't eat......
It was suggested to me to take her out of her usual environment/temps for awhile to see if that would spur her into eating again.

I was thinking about putting her in her carrier I bought her and taking her to work with me - she can sit in my office with me for one day and be kept at room temperature all day and then put back into her cage that evening - do any of you see any issues with doing this??

    Your thoughts....

I think that would be more stressful than anything.

That is what I was thinking but the breeder I got her from suggested taking her on a car ride.

I am sooo confused right now with the whole thing. I've been trying to leave her alone as much as possible because she has been fasting for 6 months now but then I get conflicting advice.

What would you all do at this point if it was your snake.

She is about 3 years old and currently weighs 1,600 grams. She has always been on f/t mice - wouldn't take rats. I tried to offer a live rat recently - she didn't even strike at it. I still offer her food every week but nothing.

Hopefully someone on here can send me in the right direction.

Im having the same issue with my female BP, She is more interested in the tongs and escaping from the viv, than the F/T mouse doing the mouse dance!

I've heated it up, gutted it, slit the nose and make it bleed, i also tried her out of her viv in a plastic container with a basking light, on and off......im stuck! Trying pillow case this evening.

The only thing i havent done is assist feed, and i only want to do that as a last resort. if that doesnt work i will try her with live.

She has been off feed for 6 months now. She hasn't lost much weight at all but it is still driving me nuts that she won't eat.

This is the first time she has fasted this long for me.

    I can't help but worry.

you could try getting her a gerbil ive heard that the change can get them to start eating again.

That can get them addicted to gerbils.

Have you tried live, rats, or ASFs if you can get them?

I have also heard a car ride can jump start them, but I would not suggest taking her anywhere like your job or to a store.

I did offer a live rat a few weeks ago - she wouldn't even try to eat it. I could possibly get a live ASF to feed her from a friend of mine - is that my best option at this point??

Have you checked if your snake is constipated?
The man at the shop where i got my BP from said that they can get constipated from a bad mouse

I have a ball python who is three years old, around 1,600 grams, and hasn't eaten since November!

Try feeding ASFR (African Soft Furred Rats), they are great and will get your snake eating right away. I plan on breeding, selling, and feeding them this June.

It is also around breeding time, so that could possibly be it. After June, if she is still not eating then the breeding issue isn't very likely.

Remember, ball pythons can go months without eating, and usually stay the same weight. Here is a video that might help:

I don't think she is constipated because she pooped since her last meal and then 2 months later I gave her a warm soak in the tub and she then had pee and urates. since she hasn't been eating - I don't think she has anything in her to poop out - LOL

Asfs are good not only because they jump start your snake, but are also non addicting 95% of the time unlike Gerbils.

Ive never heard of that, I think the store owner did not have many facts or truth behind that claim.

Honestly, I would just let her be. Shes big, shes older, and is just taking a break from eating. It happens, they do that. I had a little female under 300 grams not eat for a YEAR! Youd think I would have freaked out but she did not loose hardly any weight and I kept saying I was going to try desperate measures after a year if she didnt eat after trying ASF's rats and mice with no luck and a bookfull of other tricks, and she ate the month it hit a year :P:rolleyes:

Nothing on you LWest and I don't wanna hijack you here but...

...where did this hype start about "when your snake won't eat, take it for a car ride" thing? :rolleye2:

My guess is probably the oil companies.

    Oh, almost forget.
