Near perfect Blackback with a twist!
I'm picky when it comes to my snakes. I have been looking for one this nice for a long time. I find this guy and snatch him up immediately despite being told it was a male. I get him home. Set up quarantine. Feed. He sheds. I weigh him. 600 grams. I try to pop him. No go. I think, wow this guy can hold it in good huh? I pull out the probes. 3 scales right side.. 3 scales left side.. Really? I better get some A&D ointment and check again. It must not be lubed enough.. One more time. 3 and 3.. Its a GIRL!!! I could not be happier! I think she is the most beautiful normal I have ever seen. Someday soon this girl is going to help me make whitebacks!

Re: Near perfect Blackback with a twist!
That is one sexy blackback. Grats on it being a girl too.
I had a similar thing happen with a pastel once. I bought it as a male for $95 and got home, popped and popped and then checked again the next day... Bam... It's a girl... WOOT! She was 400g. That was a STEAL!
Grats again! Good luck with her. :gj:

Pattern is almost always "genetic" but I know what you mean.. I wont know until I breed her next year but I'm wiling to bet if put with another blackback, or whiteback albino, that I would get blackbacks out of it. Her pattern is the only reason I got her. Usually, when they are that complete, it does end up being a dominant trait so Im hopeful.

Sweet, good luck with her! I know there are some "genetic black backs" floating around out there, but I wasn't sure if was just a dominate trait through selective breeding, or an actual genetic mutation.
I got this guy from Robin. He's a really dark "black back" (technically a ph clown). I really wish I had a mojo girl to breed him to, I think he would make some pretty babies. By your standards he could quite possibly be genetic then?

Here is an updated pic taken today of this amazing girl. She is already over 1200 grams and may just breed this year. The guy I got her from was not sure of her age but I'm guessing she is an 07' or 08' and just wasn't being fed enough. She is an eating machine for sure.

Swalters... A whiteback is a proven genetic blackback albino.. In albinos the white areas are the darkest markings on a normal. So by breeding genetic blackbacks to albinos and then breeding the blackback hets together or back to a parent you can produce whiteback albinos.
This looks even better with the Lavender albinos. Purplebacks!
This is a future project of mine once I prove whether or not this female will reproduce this pattern. You can also incorporate them into other morphs where a blackback pattern is preferred. Like cinnamon, calico, etc.
