Just got this from SYR

Due to some irresponsible shippers, UPS has directed our customers to temporarily stop shipping snakes with ShipYourReptiles.com.

We are working hard to reinstate safe snake shipping for our customers and the entire reptile community.

Other types of UPS-approved non-venomous reptiles — including geckos, lizards and turtles — may be shipped with ShipYourReptiles.com.

To make your shipments easy, we recommend you drop off your packages at a Staples or Office Depot shipping counter.

We will keep you updated on this matter.

I wonder what the irresponsible shippers have done now?

People just can't seem to follow the rules.. Now they can pay for Fed-Ex..

Glad I already have my Fedex stuff in the works. They have my test package as we speak.

I saw the e-mail too and its somehow never any surprise how badly a few bad people can screw stuff up for the rest of us. Hopefully they get this resolved sooner than later.

Does anyone know exactly what's going on? When shipping of snakes may resume?

There's a post over on KS about it....

There seems to be confusion about how the whole SYR is supposed to work.

But I DO know there's a lot of dumb people out there that have shipped stuff sub-par through SYR, which is a no-no.

I've had an animal shipped to me in a duct taped banana box through SYR.....

Damn it! I knew it was only a matter of time till someone screwed it up for everyone.

If your asking if this is a bad thing it depends. SYR was a way for people that maybe only needed to ship one or two snakes a year to do so with out going through the Fed-Ex process. They were able to get bigger discounts and it really helped allot of people out.

It's always the few that mess it up for the majority..

Greg from the retic ranch got a box sent to him I beleive last week or the week before with no snake. I wonder if they found his snake?

That package was shipped through FedEx not UPS.

Yeah SYR site shipping rules it tells you to refer to UPS rules for shipping snakes.
UPS site shipping rules says that all snakes are prohibited.

So now with SYR temporarily not shipping snakes is our only option FedEx? Sorry for the basic question...:confused::confused:

And because of this there is a big thread on fauna, about to get heated I think. Oh well. I've been planning on getting Fed Ex certified. Started our process yesterday.

It was only a matter of time before something happened. Does anyone know exactly what happened?

The problem with SYR is that any idiot could just ship a snake. There was no vetting process like there is with FedEX. Oh well, I've refused to ship via SYR or accept snakes sent that way anyways because UPS is garbage, at least where I live.

I'm thinking about getting FedEx certified too...Hoping the process isn't too time consuming...

SYR doesn't say anything on the site about not shipping snakes...

If someone didn't know what do you think could happen?

I was speculating maybe someone shipped something venemous and something went bad with the shipment?..or maybe someone was using SYR to ship something other than reptiles? I could be totally off as I dont know the whole process but the venemous theory came to mind.

fed ex might be the way t ogo but does hte process have o be renewed every year or so ?? I hate to spend high dollar money renewing somethig i may only use 3-4 times. in my life ( right now at this point sincce not selling only buying)

No once you get approved to ship "live harmless reptiles" via Fed-Ex priority overnight, then as long as your account stays active then your good to go.

It is a bit of a process to get the account setup..get with you account rep. Sign and return all the papers, setup and send your test package, get all of the Test info back and get your certified approval number..

If everything goes smooth it took us about 2 months to get everything done from start to finish..

fedex overall is a better deal. if you are a sams club member you can get around 20 percent off of overnight shipments.

?? that's hilarious... how exactly would this work? we shop there for some stuff but don't have our own membership... this might convince me to get our own instead of going with the in-laws.

I just checked that out. There is a $100 annual fee to join as a Plus member. If you think that you would save at least $100 by either shopping at Sams or with shipping, then it's not a bad deal. I think I might join.
