How would you get the world out in your area that you have X animal for sale?
I just picked up a colony of ASFs and I'm not sure how to go about advertising them. I created an account on craigslist, but after reading through it, I'm sure I will get banned from posting on the site. Even if I don't say what the price is for the animal, it's not hard to figure out that they have a price and that I'm breeding them by emailing me and asking about them.

I really don't know how to advertise them locally :(

I know on the craigslist here in San Diego rodent and reptiles never get flagged even from breeders. People only flag puppies or kittens with high prices. Just post them up as feeders.

You won't get banned, but you may get flagged, and you will have to re-post your ad. Just post them as pets or feeders.

Time for some foot work..get a list of every pet store in your area..call them to see if they sell reptiles and/or feeder rodents. Then once you have your list time to go for a drive, make a personal stop at every location and sell sell sell..your going to get some turn downs, thank them and move on..

Ok I was worried I would get banned and I only have one phone number. I don't care if someone flags it, I'll post it again.

I've already done this. One is iffy on it, one will only take them if I start breeding them large scale, and one will only take them as "surrendered pets." There are two more in a 1 hour radius of me, but they don't have rodents, so I doubt they would take them. I live in rural Iowa so I don't have many options when it comes to pet stores.

Got flagged in less than 3 hours  I don't know if it will even be worth it to keep posting it if it's going to get flagged within a few hours.

Maybe just breed them for your own snakes.

yea, you'll get kicked. I remember when I was looking to get rid of some rats, I took a little gander at the terms of service..and they include not selling ANY animal.

Craigslist is a funny thing, post them up as feeders or as pets and say email me for more details. Dont put any sort of price in the ad.

I didn't know about the ebay classifieds! That seems like a good place to post.

That's pretty much exactly what I did. I didn't say anything about price. I did say "I'm sure this will get flagged by someone who thinks it's wrong to feed snakes" maybe that's what did it

I've had decent luck pulling in traffic from Hoobly.com, but I'm reluctant to recommend them because they have known, proven scammers advertising there and don't give a crap, despite claiming to "take scams seriously" or some other nonsense. I used to use them to advertise mammals, but I stopped going there entirely because I didn't want to support them any more.

http://www.petclassifieds.us/ is another one you might try -- not the highest traffic, but I think some people use it ...

It really frustrates me that Craisglist has kowtowed to the AR people in their ridiculous "no pet sales" policy, because they are SO ridiculously popular that they practically have a monopoly on local sales of anything. I mean, sure, there are other local classifieds websites (tons of them, in fact), but I don't think any other ones are as popular as Craigslist.

You could try posting your ASFs for sale in CL's "Farm and garden" section -- you ARE allowed to post "livestock" there according to CL's TOS, and the rats are kinda sorta livestock ... :P Things are a lot less likely to get flagged there, too. (Unfortunately, they're also probably less likely to be seen by local snake people ...)

just use CL even IF it gets flagged just repost it, and yea, dont mention anything about feeding snakes, thats why you got flagged so fast.

heres my add that i run, its been flagged once in maybe 3 months:

need rats? i have TONS available. mostly pinkies right now but they grow fast. pinks start at $1 rehomeing fee.

or if you're looking for something cuddly, i have fancy/hooded/dumbo/rex/siamese/ pretty much everything but hairless

after it got flagged, the one time, i posted this one instead:

need rats? i have TONS available. lots of them, just weaned, right now. small rehomeing fee.
i have fancy/hooded/dumbo/rex/siamese/ pretty much everything but hairless

ANY type of rat you need, just ask

hope that helps. and yea i think they should just flat out allow sales, not like their wimpy tos is gunna stop anyone

    I got banned from Craigslist!!!

 That site is a joke, so I guess I don't care, but it was annoying. I posted an add that I had ASFs that I needed to get rid of. I didn't say anything about selling them, or feeding them to snakes  I guess my area is a bunch of rat huggin PETA members.

This thread is a little older, but figured i'd share something.

A flagger made an interesting post 2 weeks ago. Saying she/he flags any reptile ad on there that might mention a size, morph, het something, or even ANY reptile that doesn't come with an enclosure, or anyone mentionning that they want to trade something.

They also said that technically it's illegal to sell pets on CL, but that they flag any animal free to good home to avoid problems, but to include a small rehoming fee is technically selling it, so illegal. WTF:rolleye2:

So pretty much nothing can be put on CL.

    no kidding!!!!

I was actually able to get my account back because someone was selling cars with my account  So they gave it back to me since they didn't know which ads I actually posted :P

I just posted an ad LOOKING for fancy rats and someone flagged me!!!! WTF!!! I posted it again, and didn't get flagged, but I did get one hatemail.

    Craigslist people :rolleye2:

Join some ASF breeder listings. People who want ASF's will cruise the internet for it and find you local and what not. I'm pretty sure I have seen requests for any contact in Iowa.

You could post on faunaclassifieds.com as well, there are lots of people who would be interested there as well. Just post it in the feeders section and I'm sure you will sell of a good bunch of them.

I'm an idiot, should have made notice of it being ASFs.

Just find people locally who have BPs or other snakes and see if they're interested. Networking, facebook postings, forums, shows, etc.

I have found several people in Iowa that want ASFs, but they are a little annoying. They expect me to drive the rats over an hour to them. If they want the dang things THEY can come get them! I've sort of given up on it for now.

I absolutely agree with you, don't go out of your way just to make a couple of bucks. You'll find someone if you keep trying.

That's pretty unbelievable ..! I mean, I can appreciate someone at least asking if delivery is available, for a fee, if they're buying several hundred dollars' worth ... But for a few rats, really?

Craigslist kind of is a joke (their "Pets" section really is, and a sad one at that -- I accidentally mis-typed "Peta" just then and that ain't too far off, especially for some states with "CL Pets Police"). Too bad because it can also be a very useful tool if used properly.

I got flagged the first time I put up a "rats wanted" add, too (no hate mail, thankfully -- I can't stand that kind of thing, not tough enough I guess :( ) but the 2nd time I put a paragraph at the top detailing why it didn't violate their TOS, and surprisingly it stayed up for quite a bit longer.
