Room heater

Is there any way you can make a room heater safer? like is there a style of room heater that is safer,or is there a brand. I'm worried about useing one because of the fire hazard.

Could it start a fire if it was set to 82-85 degrees?

Oil-filled heaters are fairly safe, just keep them away from the walls or anything paper.
You could also use a Radiant Heat Panel--these often can be hung on the walls, and they stay cool to the touch, so they're safe. They make some that can be mounted on the ceiling, too.

How many RHP's would it take to heat a 8' x 12' room?

Oil filled heaters are the safest heaters you can get and combine with a good T-Stat you will be in business :gj:

Oil filled radiator style are awesome! I have gotten one that had a defective cord that heated up however, so be aware you want to check that when you first get it. I've heard it can be an issue.
If you put it on a thermostat, it really is problem free, and I've put my clothing over it to warm up in the mornings in the winter. The clothing never gets so hot I'd worry, so I don't worry about fire hazards hardly at all with these.

Anything with exposed heating elements like the typical electric heaters with the coils that you can see getting red hot would be the least safe(not even counting the flame-making kerosine type heaters).

use an oil filled one that got built in thermostat works ok as long as I don't movee stat ( got a habit of bumping it as I move around the room )

Oil filled heaters are safer than heating element types. HOWEVER, any electric heater has a chance of malfunctioning. I've had an oil filled heater melt the plug. This was a serious melting and I think was within minutes of going up in flames.

Be careful which ever heater you use. Check it often.

I used the same kind this past winter but I had it hooked into a Johnson thermostat...
