    tub for rats
my hubby says a tupperware tub without a lid will be sufficient enough for the rats i plan on keeping to feed the single ball python i plan on getting. im worried they'll escape. i dont plan on cutting any of the tub's sides except for a hole for the water bottle. i dont think rats can climb smooth surfaces but i was still worried. can/will they escape?

Only problem is, if there is ANYWHERE that is not perfectly smooth and they can get their teeth in...they will chew out. $10 10gal fish tank from Wal-Mart. :D If you will just keeping one or two until feeding day.

Will you have a lid? I keep small and medium sized rats in a glass enclosure that is nearly 2 feet high, and I think they would definitely escape if it didn't have a lid. They have a way of climbing up their water bottle and sitting on top of it, but they can't seem to get past the lid, which is just a metal screen thing that sits on top of the cage without any clips or locks.

Most pet stores sell a thing that hangs over the side of the aqurium and the bottle rest in it.

FYI You will spend more time and money on breeding and caring for your own rats/mice if you only have 1 ball python, just thought I would let you know. I have 34 snakes and still do not breed my own as time and money would spent more on them than with my snakes

The rodent water bottle holder that works with a glass tank looks like this. The metal part that suspends it is not bent when you buy it. You can adjust it yourself to fit with your own cage.

I don't breed rats, either. It's just nice to not have to go snake food shopping so often and to have a place to put rodents that don't get eaten right away.

These are my "grow up" tubs and breeding tubs. You could easily do one of these, but it is a bit more work to make than buying a 10 gallon tank :D

And my nursing rack, 1 mom per tub

You just have to know where to look LOL. Here's a clue. Doskocil still makes them under the name Petmate. The Linens & Things website has them.
