BPs and ACs
As i gets warmer i will be using an air conditioner pretty much constantly. As a result the ambient temp in the room will be rather cold. Is there a way to remedy this or will i need to move them to a different room.
thanks

Re: BPs and ACs
You could always go pick up a ceramic heat emitter or a heat lamp to help with the ambient temps, but this might not really help if the room gets way too cold. Especially if you're using a tank.

Re: BPs and ACs
Hi,
We keep it cold in our house as well. I run a UTH and x2 CHE's 1(white) for day and 1(red) for night since at night we crank the AC down.

Re: BPs and ACs
I was wondering the same thing about the AC. I debated not even putting it in, but I think I might, and if it does get to cold for the snake I'll take it out and switch to just the fan. ^^;; But I know she'll have her uth, and I plan on getting one of those ceramic light heater things. So I'll try that out myself.

Re: BPs and ACs
I had to move mine to another room and put a vent magnet up to block the air in the room some...

Re: BPs and ACs
I just have the vent partially closed off in the room with snakes and used oscillating fans. If it starts getting too warm in there I'll just open the door a little and let some of the cooler air from the house into the room to cool it down a bit...

Re: BPs and ACs
How cold is rather cold? Room temps down to 68 shouldn't be a problem, that's usually as warm as it gets at my house in the winter with it dropping lower then that at night. As long as the cage is warmer with a decent sized hot spot it should be fine.

Save some money and don't freeze your house so much. Thermostats are a great thing!

CHE's don't put out any light
I keep the AC on in the same room as my snakes almost year round (yes even through the winter). The room they are in has no windows to the outside and has 4 computers running 24/7 in it. The room gets to about 75* with the AC on. Just get a thermometer for the ambient room temp and adjust the air vent and fans accordingly. I try to keep the room between 70-80*.

Excuse me trying to learn. The CHE isn't the bulb's fixture? Educate me.
I have 2 ceramic 8.5 75w white day and a 75w infrared night. Seems to me that would be a "CHE" it's ceramic and with a correct bulb its a heat emitter.

CHE: Ceramic Heat emitter. These heaters do not emit any light.

Re: BPs and ACs
Here is a Ceramic Heat Emitter... CHE They screw into a regular light socket they put out heat but no light.
You are probably thinking about a light bulb screwed into a lamp with a ceramic socket. Ceramic sockets are nice because you can use a higher wattage bulb without melting it.
It's also highly recommended that you use a lamp with a ceramic socket with CHE's

Re: BPs and ACs
I have just gotten use to keeping my house no cooler than 73 in the summer. I keep the AC thermostat set at 73 or 74. Most of my snakes are in a spare bedroom and I can close the vent to regulate the temp in the room. The snakes kept in the front of the house are in stacked, enclosed cages so I dont worry about the temp in that part of the house.
Some members have insulated the sides and back of their tank with thin styrofoam insulation painted whatever color you want it. Sheets can be purchased at home depot, menards, lowes etc. Cut to fit and then use a good tape or adhesive calk. Cover the screen top with foil and there ya go.

Re: BPs and ACs
I am lucky as Ican close the vent to he cental air unit so the reptile room does not get ac until mid June ( I just set a window fan in the widow and pull the heat out sicne in the afternoon the room can get almost 95 degrees easy with the sun on shining on that side. )
My problem is when it comes winter I forget to reopen the vent and if the night gets cool enough the space heater not able ot keep up so I get a 70 degree room when I check on them.
