Re: Cutting Clutch 2
Not to sound mean
But why did you cut em at day 45, and why such a large window?

Always cut them this time. Theres some ppl like Jas that cut day 30 no ill effect. They never come out early.

Congrats! What was the pairing?

Re: Cutting Clutch 2
So is this one of the Phantom clutches?
-
Re: Cutting Clutch 2
Both clutches were to phantom. Spider was tossed in as well but seems he didnt get the job done first.

Re: Cutting Clutch 2
Even though they aren't out of the eggs, they look very cool and neat :) Good luck with them! By the way, I want to see them when they are out of the egg ;)

Yes they all have great colors inside the eggs. But i cant wait for them to come out as the normals have some wicked patterns.
Ill have pictures as they are out and shed.

Re: Cutting Clutch 2
congrats on the clutch and those are some really cool pictures. Didn't know that you could open up a egg and the snakes would continue to develop and grow without any harm.

Day 45 there fully developed.
Some that cut at day 30 do small windows and watch the snake develop. Usually i wait till around 48-50 but when i have a free day i will cut around day 45 as i have today.
The one large egg looks to be a monster 100g baby or twins as i coudlnt see under it. Only time will tell

Re: Cutting Clutch 2
Have 'we' all developed such tse-tse fly attention spans that 'we' can't just let nature take it's course and happen on it's own?
What's next, installing a plexi window when they are laid?
Sheesh.....
BTW, they are not 'fully developed' on Day 45 because if they were, they wouldn't stay in their eggs until Day 55-58.

Not cool in my opinion, though that's all it is...

Sheesh.....
Please keep it to your self. Some of the top breeders you buy from do it earlier than day 45. So till you have the facts zip it
Not all stay in till the 55-58. Some will come out day 50-60 or even day 65.

Re: Cutting Clutch 2
I cut my recent clutch on this past friday at day 49 and today would have been day 52 but they are already all out and thriving.
-
Re: Cutting Clutch 2
IMHO day 52 is about as early as you should cut. I think waiting till the first one pips is better.
You really can't rush them.:colbert:
Rich, any idea why your eggs look so weird? What do you feed your rats? Just curious, because the clutch before this one had the same strange lumpy mottled look.
So I figure there must be some common factor for both exhibit the same characteristics.

They just started looking like that in last week. Once they started dimpling they begain looking like that. Nothing i can do as i could care less how eggs look as long as the baby inside is healthy.
Never had one die in the egg or not be healthy,
Also Humidity might play a role in them as well for being like that.

Re: Cutting Clutch 2
Congrats on the 2nd clutch Rich!!! Hope you get quite a few phantoms this year :gj:

I agree as long as they are healthy who could ask for more.
So I guess you have no idea why they look that way,.... weird.
Do you breed your own rats?

Yes my rats are my own production i feed. I dont feed live rats at all.
The first clutch earlier is from a female that only eats mice and this one is a rat eater.
I truly think its due to humidity as they stay nice n smooth till last 2 weeks give or take. Once i begin air exchange they begin to look as you see them. At this time adding water would do nothing really as vermiculite is still wet.

Re: Cutting Clutch 2
Cutting them so early can't really help much as far as the humidity....maybe that is what is causing them to do that.

Doubt it, Jas cuts day 30 no problems, Bryan here cut same day i did and no problems. I truly think it was just a humidity issue from air exchanging. No one will ever figure it out as eggs arent perfect.

Re: Cutting Clutch 2
I have only hatched out a few over the past three years, but I never saw any like those.

Hey Rich,
Last year I had one clutch dimple, this year I have had none dimple(I have cut 2 ckutches already and I am cutting the third on Monday next week). I am adding a few more grams of water this year than last though. So I wonder if it is a humidity issue you are having. But, you are using the substrateless method. You should have a perfect humidity percentage...

Yea i soak the vermiculite with a lot of water like usual. And i dont check on eggs till day 40 and add water if needed. They only dimple when they get closer to hatching. Always have since i been breeding. Some dont dimple at all some do.
Humidity has been 91%+. Its just odd they stay fine till last 2 weeks. so who knows, all i care about is the babies inside looking healthy and good.

awsome pictures........thanks for sharing

Re: Cutting Clutch 2
Very nice!!!! I can't wait to see them out of the eggs! I was wondering what on earth you bred to get a white snake with a tiny bit of black/gray stripes

I beg to differ, I'm not sure if it's our easy-going lifestyle up here, but in the 10+ years I've been around, the earliest I have ever heard any breeder cutting is day 50. We're not in too much of a rush to see what's in the egg, they'll come out when they're ready.

Yes Sir, ALL. I've hatched over 1000 eggs and never once has a baby pipped before Day 53. Ever.
Must be all the clean air...

Nice looking snakes in those eggs! Thanks for sharing!

I'm going to go out on a limb here and compare BPs to chickens. Chicks spend the last few days inside the egg absorbing the yolk, since their development is complete. Since BPs have a much longer incubation time than chickens, I'd think that they spend a much longer time at the end just absorbing the yolk. I could very well be wrong. With chicks, it is also possible, if you're lucky, for them to absorb the yolk outside the egg. Not certain if BPs are this similar to chickens, but the eggs do work in much the same way.
I'm not disagreeing with you; I wouldn't want to risk babies. But if someone else does, I'm not going to be an arrogant butt about it. Being nice is generally a much better way to get your opinion heard, but I guess maybe that's a result of all our dirty air down here.
In any case, congratulations! They look spectacular, especially the light ones :D

Re: Cutting Clutch 2
The air around here smells like the ocean, it's a great smell, never get tired of it. ;)
Congrats on your new Phantoms!
-
Re: Cutting Clutch 2
Well the Egg on far right that was upside down has turned around last night and its a Spider. And the far left big one turned too and looks like a HUGE phantom.
So both males sired this clutch.
-
Re: Cutting Clutch 2
No arguement from me. Congrats big time:gj:

Re: Cutting Clutch 2
Hmm. Seems to me this is a bit like the tubs v tanks debate. So long as the snakes are healthy and thriving, shouldn't we let it be 'to each his own?'
(would some people say the same thing about finding out a human baby's gender via ultrasound?)

Neat, when I first saw the pics I thought that was a spider from that thin little stripe. Congrats once again!

Cool clutch. Any photos of the babies? LOL IF I could put a plexi glass window on the eggs I would :D

Re: Cutting Clutch 2
Congrats on the clutch! Those are some nice and healthy looking babies in the eggs!
