    Super dehydrated! :(
So my lil 270 gram albino shed yesterday and every other shed has come off cleanly. This one was absolutely horrific when I checked him last night and he had stuck shed all over him. I left it until morning because he's always REALLY active at night (much more than my others) and he's super fast so I decided to wait until today to soak him when he'd be easier to handle.

Well I just opened his tub and he's SUPER dehydrated looking. Wrinkly all down his body :(

He has plenty of clean water and the humidity is fine, so I'm really not sure what happened.

I have him soaking in some warm water right now, do any of you have some other suggestions? I tried searching "dehydration" in the forums but didn't get much =/

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks! :please:

Pictures can help but with him having problem shedding, its more related to that.

Boas when going into shed can look dehydrated and might be what your seeing with your lil BP.

Soak him in a warm water or use the wet pillow case trick to get the skin off

Cat, I never really had shedding issues when I lived in NJ. Now that I'm in the desert I use Venta airwashers in my rooms to keep the humidity up but they still have issues shedding if I don't spray them. Once I notice they are going to shed I mark their bins and spray them every day. It works well for me...

Yeah he's in the warm water right now. I'll go see if I can snap a pic and post it.

Might be good idea to get in habit to just spray ALL the snakes daily.

I only measure room humidity not the tubs. I just spray in the morning before work and when i get home from work and thats it.

On rain days room is 50-60% so i dont spray. Since doing this during winter sheds have been great when room was in the low 20%.

    Just a suggestion

Thans more related to the shed issue. As the wrinkle areas might be stuck sheds. IF soaking dont work now, then tomorrow do pillow case

Ok, thank you. I'll try that. Yeah I was quite upset to see it was so bad. Every other shed he's had was just so perfect. In fact all of my snakes have been perfect shedders and vorcacious eaters haha. So you could say this was one of my first "problems" ...

Thank you for the advice. I just wanted to make sure he was ok. I think I'm going to be switching from paper to pine AND paper today to help with humidity.

I have heard pine and cedar can be toxic to snakes. I have never used either so I can't confirm it. Maybe someone with first-hand experience will post...

I imagine she meant to say aspen instead, and just typed in pine by accident. That's what I'm hoping, anyway. :weirdface

Ack! Oops! Yes I meant aspen!! I was so used to using pine when I had guinea pigs that's just what is embedded in my head.

Bought a big bag of the Petco brand aspen today. About to go do a full cage changing :)

Update: So yes the wrinkles were definitely from the shed...I came home, put the aspen in the cages, sprayed them all down with warm water and went and tinkered around the house a bit. I came back to check on them and sure enough, a big chunk of shed had come off of him and I could see the lovely high contrast underneath (he is a gorgeous snake!). It hasn't all come off and I'll see how he is in the morning. Maybe the new bedding will help with the process rather than just the paper towels :)

LOL Jim, it's funny you say that, because I was lookin at that pic and thinkin "wow, that angle makes him look horribly skinny!" and I was actually going to post that in the post where I put the pic, but no he's actually a lil chunker!!

    http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/y...s/DSC01032.jpg

There's still some stuck shed on him, he got the majority of it off. He's in a bad mood today (not unusual for him...lil poophead is pretty but he's a pissy one) and since the eye caps are off I decided to leave him be today and I'm gonna try the wet pillowcase method tomorrow when I have an extra set of hands.

I lucked out actually. All 4 of my snakes are VORACIOUS eaters. I swear they'd eat every day if I let them. With my pastel I can't even barely get it in her tub before she's wrapped around it. None of them have ever refused a meal.

Like I said earlier in the thread, this is the first "problem" I've had with any of them! All have had clean sheds, eat great and have been growin like weeds!!
