NEW BPs... And Stowaway
So i pick up 2 new BPs at the columbus show today. i'm so excited i finally got my bumble bee, and they threw in a pastel for pretty much free. I also had a supprise when i got home. I opened the bag and out jumped this lizard! I have no idea what it is and i have no interest in keeping a lizard. I would take it back but the show was a 2 hour drive. I was thinking of taking it up to a pet store to see if they want it. Does anyone know what this is...

If anyone knows what this lizard is, please let me know. Also i will try to get better pics of the BPs up soon when they aren't so stressed from the car ride home. I feel like it's christmas!

It's a Frilled Dragon.

Re: NEW BPs... And Stowaway
Nice ball pythons, and, yes, that is a frilled dragon.
-
Re: NEW BPs... And Stowaway
Just so you know the Frilled Dragon is worth about $150-$200 CDN.
I would try to trade it to the petstore for credit on feeders or reptiles suplies.

Re: NEW BPs... And Stowaway
That's hilarious! I'd probably jumped halfway across the room if something jumped out at me. Nice pickups though, how much does the bee weigh?
-
Re: NEW BPs... And Stowaway
nice new snakes and the lizard looks badass! keep it!
-
Re: NEW BPs... And Stowaway
Nice looking snakes. You might not have planned on a lizard, but it looks like that little dragon picked you...
-
Re: NEW BPs... And Stowaway
You should try and find it a good home, I'm not sure what your pet stores are like, but it might die. Maybe try putting it on here in the classified section?
-
Re: NEW BPs... And Stowaway
i'd say keep it. you might not want it now, but that thing looks like it would be a bad little pet :)

Re: NEW BPs... And Stowaway
I don't really want a lizard but my husband is falling for him lol. I think we need to do some major research on these guys. I also picked up a snake rack at the show so the dragon is in my old snake tank. I have a heat lamp and heat pad on that tank so i think he will be ok for now. We are going to run to the pet store to get some stuff for him. I called the pet store and they said they would take him, but wouldn't give me any money or credit for him because they don't know if it's healthy or not. Maybe it was meant to be... I have my snakes and now my husband has a dragon lol.
I don't have a scale, but i'm guessing the bee is about a year old. He is 2 times the thickness of the pastel and the pastel might be 4 months. I'm not good in guessing grams though. I will probably get a scale soon.
So does anyone here have a frilled dragon? Are they difficult to care for compared to BPs?
I'm so excited about my new BPs. i just can't get over it!

Re: NEW BPs... And Stowaway
Nice balls. I would call the person you got the bp's from and ask if the dragon belongs to them. I would feel guilty about keeping something I didn't pay for, especially since they gave you a good deal on your pastel and you got such beautiful bee's. I have NO idea how expensive frilled dragons are but if they do go for over $100 I would bet the breeder (if it is his) would be willing to come and get it (or at least I would ).
What ever you decide good luck.

Re: NEW BPs... And Stowaway
Glad you decided to keem em... cute little thing... I bet you end up enjoying him alot...

Re: NEW BPs... And Stowaway
ROFL me & my daughter got a huge kick out of watching that video. amazing how it ran on 2 legs! oh sorry the snakes are awesome looking too!
-
Re: NEW BPs... And Stowaway
That video was awesome!
Thanks for all of the feedback. I am planning on calling the breeder because i feel a little bad. It seems like most babies go for anywhere from $120 to $160. I don't know if they would want to drive 2 hours for that, but we will see...

I can't remember the guys name, but the receipt says pets plus. I thought i saw another name on their tshirts but I had tunnel vision when i saw my bee lol. They had the biggest selection of balls and biggest booth. They had a lot of very nice and healthy looking snakes. If I had the money, I would have gotten 5 more from this guy. They had some awesome killer bees. I almost got a pewter but it hadn't eaten yet and I was just a little nervous about spending $800 on a "fragile" bp. They had pretty much everything except pieds and het pieds. It was a decent show though. Too bad you missed it.

Re: NEW BPs... And Stowaway
That is pretty funny that you got a little lizard, the thing that confuses me is how could he have gotten in that bag unless they put him in there to try and just get rid of it or something. How could he just sneak away from his tank or enclosure or sneak on a trip with them in a bag. Either way it is pretty funny and good luck to taking care of it (or bringing it to a petstore, so good luck to whatever you choose to do).

Re: NEW BPs... And Stowaway
I wonder if someone else got home with an empty bag? LOL. Good for you to call the seller, that's a good honest person for you! He's cute and those are nice looking balls too.
-
Re: NEW BPs... And Stowaway
Frilled lizards are nice in their own right and fairly valuable, too. They're on Kingsnake.com's classifieds in the $100-$150 range. I wonder how he managed to wind up in the bag??
Gorgeous bee and pastel. Congrats on the pick ups! :)

Re: NEW BPs... And Stowaway
nice pickups and that's a pretty cool lizard

Re: NEW BPs... And Stowaway
I tried calling the breeder and no luck. I will try again tomorrow. The first thing i thought of was, maybe someone else they were checking out bought it, then they accidentally put my bps in their bag. I hope nobody else was disappointed. I also thought, maybe they had a bunch of them they couldn't get rid of so they just threw it in... I had a 2 hour car ride home. The little guy must have been pretty worried in that bag with 2 big snakes lol.

Not yet lol. I saw some cool ones at the show, but i don't know if i want a snake that will get that big. I'm addicted to BPs.

Re: NEW BPs... And Stowaway
Was the vendor that you got the snakes from even selling lizards? I am wondering if he didn't escape a near-by table and was hiding out in the bag... :confuzd:

Nothing that good happens to me! That is great. I'd love to see more pictures of that frilled dragon!
-
Re: NEW BPs... And Stowaway
seriously, a free frilled!?
did you mention to the pet store that you "found" it when you got home.
thats prolly why they didn't offer you anything since they new you got it free.
seriously keep it. they are so sick when full grown. care isn't very hard either.

Re: NEW BPs... And Stowaway

He is definitely a baby. From head to tail, he is about 5" long. We got some crickets for him yesterday, but I haven't seen him eat yet. I hope the little guy does ok.

Re: NEW BPs... And Stowaway
Great snakes and even better lizard. Can't wait to see if there is any other story that goes with it.

Re: NEW BPs... And Stowaway
My fiance wanted me to say "finders keepers"
-
Re: NEW BPs... And Stowaway
Oh.MY.GOD LOL, thats funny! Nice pick ups, and keep the lizard if you can, it says something when a lizzard picks you :P
Heres my guess
Ive been to alot of shows, and from what I see 90% of the Venders keep reptiles in bags that they cannot fit onto the table, under or behind the table, so my guess could be that the vender accidently decided to use a bag that had something already in it? That or he truely is just a stowaway and hitched a ride in that bag and didnt get caught.

I don't think either of these scenarios is likely. I've never heard of a lizard being put in a snake bag for transport...they usually go in little plastic cups with lids. I can't imagine that any reasonable businessman would intentionally put a baby lizard into a bag...much less a bag with snakes in it. I'm very glad he wasn't hurt in the journey!
Seems most likely to me that he escaped from some other table and was hiding in that bag that your snakes got put into. Beautiful snakes, btw! :D And frilled dragons are awesome creatures...I'm glad you're deciding to keep it...I hope we can see pics of it as it grows!

Re: NEW BPs... And Stowaway
Ok it's official. We're keeping the little guy. My husband named him Stewy, and now i have to figure out how to build a 4 foot high enclosure and regulate temp and humidity lol. Sounds like this could be tricky. I've been reading up on these guys for hours and they are pretty interesting. Also, I saw him eat 4 crickets this morning! Hopefully he will start to put on some weight soon. I have read that these guys eat like pigs compared to BPs. This will definitely be a new learning experience but we're excited!

I will post pics for sure when he gets bigger. I read these guys get, on average, 30" long. Wow, I can't wait!

Ive had a few beardies shipped to me in bags ;) Granted never one that small, your right about it should being in a Deli Cup but its easier to transport them to a show in bags...

Re: NEW BPs... And Stowaway
A four foot high enclosure for a baby frilled is a little too big for him at his size and age. You may want to try to start with something smaller like a 2 foot first. They tend to be semi-arboreal and really enjoy basking. It is very important to get him under a UV A and a UV B light, we use the mercury vapor bulbs on our own frilly's. They enjoy a diet of crickets and worms but we do not reccommend beginning to feed the worms til he is around a year, because they are hard to digest. Get him a nice branch to climb on and he will be the happiest dragon in the world.
Nice pick up......

Re: NEW BPs... And Stowaway
By chance were the sellers the ones on the far left towards the back when you walk in the door?
