    my setup
just me venting...yesterday i got my shipment of the UTH i ordered as well as the paper background. i got everything set up then my hubby came in and decided it wasnt right & that i didnt put the terrarium together the right way so he disassembled the whole thing & assembled it again. granted its a little better then the way i had it done but it just bugs me when he does that. im grateful that he fixed the minor issues it was having but still, it would've functioned properly either way.
he does this alot, rearranges something after i do it or in this case completely disassembles something & puts it back together himself. ironiclly it ends up better his way then mine, but still,
wouldnt it be annoying after awhile if someone came & undid all your hard work just to do again themselves?

speaking of my order...i got a UTH from reptiledirect.com thats "supposed" to be good for a 30-40 gallon terrarium. i have a 20 gal terrarium & that heating pad barely takes up 1/4 of it & covers the back left corner only! now i have to order another, larger heat pad just to properly heat at least 1/2 of the terrarium for the warm side...has anyone else experienced this size issue with reptiledirect? im NOT happy with this purchase at all & wrote a review saying so. maybe someone else wil see it in time to purchase the correct size.

ok i feel better now that i emailed reptiledirect.com about the incorrect specified sizes of their UTH's. i just HAD to tell them there was a mistake. maybe they'll change it to prevent anyone else from having the same problem. i spent $25 on a UTH thats smaller then a 12" ruler...thats a rip off in my opinion...

    Hi,

Just to say the warm end is normally supposed to be a third of the enclosure. :)

I dont get it as far as I can see reptiledirect has the aquarium size and the dimension of the UTH on their website. I dont see how its there fault you ordered the wrong size? It says on their website that the 30-40g one is 11"x11" for the cobra brand. And the 30-40g for the repti brand is 14" by 8". Thats the only two brands I see on their website. Are you sure they sent you the right one or are they advertising different sizings then what they ship? Im wondering because I was about to make an order with them.

yamatitan- they sent me the right package but when i measured the heat pad it was not the size they say it is supposed to be. i ordered what i thought was the right size for my terrarium & it turned out to be smaller then what they say.

So did you measure the UTH and the dimensions were smaller then what they advertise on their website? If so then I wont be ordering from them.

    Re: my setup
I would try it first. Remember they need a hot "spot" of 90-92*. It may work just fine. The heat will travel the glass very well too and will heat a much larger area than the pad itself. It will gradually cool off away from the pad. I would put it in the middle of one half of the tank bottom. Give it a try before ordering something else. Leave it on for about 24-48 hours and check your temps, you may be surprised :O

    Re: my setup
Before everybody starts bashing a company for their sizes of UTH, think about this. That UTH she ordered is probably for a 40 gal tank, probably an aquarium style that would measure somwhere around 36L X 14W X 18H.
She probably has a 40 gal breeder style reptile tank which probably measures 36L X 18W X 14H. Before I get any UTH's I measure my enclosures floor dimensions and look for a size that will cover 1/3- 1/2 of the floor...

After re-reading the thread again I see that they sent you the wrong one, see if they will exchange it if need be...

    Re: my setup
i have measured my terrarium (not tank) & its 30 x 12 x 12 (slightly smaller then a 20 gal, or so im told). the UTH was supposed to be 14 "L x 8 "W which would sufficiently be almost 1/2 of the terrarium's length. the UTH i ended up receiving is smaller lengthwise then my 12 in. ruler. the package said 30-40gal size but theres no way that UTH is even big enough for a 10 gallon tank. well maybe it might be, but it sure doesnt look like it. i think that UTH may have been in the wrong packaging, hey it happens. ive called reptile supply about their UTH's & they gave me the # to hagen, the company that makes their UTH's. Hagen assured me their UTH's are in fact the size they're said to be.
