    New purple Retic male.
Have always wanted a retic. This is gonna be more of a pet. I always love the feed response of the big snakes.

You should learn aboout the habits of your animals before you acquire them.

You are housing that animal as if it were a bp. It is NOT. It is, however, quite beautiful.

    Chris,

Thanks for your reply. How do you suggest I house the snake? Ihave been feeding him crickets and goldfish. Do you think that meets his nutritional requirements?......:please:

Purty retic. If I may add my :2cent: ... I kept one of my SD retics in a tub like that for a few months. The only problem I ever saw was she desperately wanted out every time I opened it. She is much more relaxed in a big display cage. I have been told that babies may feel safer in a tub though. I'm sure you will accommodate him as he grows. Really you should try feeding him some jello and snake sausages too. I hear they love em! :P

    Foschi,

I plan on keeping him in a tub until he gets a little bigger. He is prettly laid back in there right now. I do have plans for a 6ft AP cage in the near future. Probably gonna plan on picking it up at Tinley in OCT. I know thye dont get stressed out in bigger enclosures like BP's do but he is doin good in the rack so far and dont see the need for a big cage right now.

For the record I tried to feed him some jello with cool whip and he didnt take it. Maybe lactose intolerant? Mumps any ideas why he isnt eating?

    Very funny replies, guys!

I didn't see anywhere where you mentioned it is a dwarf or super dwarf, and you're going to get it a 6 foot cage? For what? Five months?

When that sucker gets big, you're going to have to make a full bathtub of jello for it!

I know a few breeders, one who is very respected among retic people who have their breeders in 6 ft cages. They are not all that active when the get larger and you are correct, it is not a dwarf of super dwarf. Its one of dem big boys! I have since purchased an industrial sized mixer for all the jello

That is a very nice Purple. We have raised hundreds of retics in rack systems. Absolutely nothing wrong with it. I also agree six foot cages are fine for adults. Remember the old method of determining how big a snake you can keep in the cage you have, add the total perimeter length. So if you have a cage that is six feet long and two feet deep you can comfortably house a 16 foot snake in that cage.

However, for like a mere $100 and some change more you can get the 8' cage that AP makes. That's the route I went when I was making the same decision several years back.

    Denial,

Well since this is my first retic I am not going to deny your claim. I have been around many large retics and in my little experiance with them they do seem more active outside of their cage than most but inside I have not experianced alot of activity.

I absolutely love how inquisitive mine is when I handle him and he is probably my favorite animal right now. I cant wait to see him with a little size on him.

I may go foe the 8 ft cage not sure yet. Since he is a male he probably will be ok in a 6 footer. Planning on stacking 3 high for him, my boa and a To be announced other yet lol...Leaning towards granite burm. I kept burms years ago and really enjoy them too and back then the granites were out of my price range

Yea retics enjoy moving around. I made the mistake of letting oskar climb a tree once. That wont ever happen again. But there great animals to have. If your looking for a granite be sure to check out beardens burms they just hatched a few out. And they all look amazing.

I feel bad for those adult retics that have to live in 6ft'ers.

I think a 6ft cage is plenty of room for an adult male. A female I would definitely keep in an 8ft. Everyone has different opinions on things but if the animals are eating breeding and are overall healthy I think its fine
