Re: Het Paperwork Question
As a professional breeder we give people a record of who dad and mom were with pictures. Now can those be falsified? Sure they can. The paper is just to show you that the breeder keeps careful records, and is going that extra step to assure you that you are getting what you pay for. Incidentally I would never by hets from someone I did not know, unless we had a mutual friend who knew them and how they do business. NEVER EVER!!!:colbert:
Re: Het Paperwork Question
It is usually a written guarantee that the animal is in fact a het... Its kinda like putting their name and reputaion on it... If the paper is a written guarantee and the animal does not prove out after a few breeding attempts they may replace said animal depends on what guarantee says....
Re: Het Paperwork Question
We give a photo guarentee.
Re: Het Paperwork Question
I dont know any breeders personally but everyone that I've bought hets from has had good reviews on Fauna. With that said, I've never received paperwork on my het with pics of the parents.
Re: Het Paperwork Question
Just be careful because if the breeder pulls a fast one on you it will be two or three years if you bought a female before you find out about it. Even then they just may have missed on the odds so its another year, then another. Finally you decide I guess they must not be hets... Then where are you? 4 or 5 years later and no morph. That is why I suggest dealing with people you know or who come highly recommended by those you trust.

Not everyone goes to the same extent.. Some provide paper work some don't see the need to.. If your uncomfortable buy Het's with out paperwork, its best to ask prior to buy. But remember it can be faked.. I can send you a load of Normal's claiming they are DH Pied clown and even have a pic of my pied and a clown on the paper work, most folks if they are going to cheat you aren't going to go to that extreme though.
Re: Het Paperwork Question
IMO paperwork is mostly meaningless. As others have said, it can easily be faked, especially if you buy a hatchling and then 3 years later when you breed it and it doesn't prove out, you've wasted time, effort, and money and someone who is selling fake hets probably won't be around in three years anyways.
If you're buying hets, buy from someone reputable, and if you're buying from someone reputable, then you don't need paperwork to trust them.
Re: Het Paperwork Question
I guess I'll just take it as a lesson learned. Thanks everyone.
Re: Het Paperwork Question
It's almost like getting a "pedigree" document. I would only buy hets from a breeder I trust. Doing otherwise IMO would be just as silly as buying "het for laser eyes" or, "het for glow-in-the-dark" Without the animals coming from a trusted breeder, you don't know what you're getting for your hard earned money..
Re: Het Paperwork Question
I would never sell a het without first having bred the parents and proven it. I have 3 sets of hets. Only one of those snakes came with paperwork and pictures. Of the 6 I have I only have a mild doubt about one. All the others came from reputable breeders with great background stats. I simply did research on the BOI and here to make my decisions to buy. I really dont want to work with too many recessives but if that one female does not prove out I will never be able to sell her as anything other than a normal. The others I have no doubts about even if they didnt give me visuals on the first breeding.
IMO paperwork is good but only if it is from someone who already has a good rep. If they already have a good rep then paperwork is not really needed. If joe schmo promises paperwork but no one here or on fauna has ever heard of him or talked to him then that paperwork is worthless. Its a catch22 either way.
