Popping Question?
I have my normal Djinn, who I thought was a male, well I tried to pop Djinn, now i'm thinking he is a she.. I watched the 8Ball video on "popping" and I have seen it done may a times.. My question is do you use a good amount of pressure with the thumbs to pop? I dont wanna hurt Djinn.. He ( or so I was told ) started it all for my he's the first BP I ever got.. Thank you in advance.
Cheers

How big is he? Sometimes the larger snakes can hold in the private parts and make it hard to verify :P

Re: Popping Question?
Both placement of your fingers and pressure are important, younger snake require less pressure whereas older bigger snake require more pressure.
The key is practice practice practice, and if you have someone local to you that can show you it's even better. :gj:

It can be tricky to pop a male! Sometimes a little more pressure needs to be aplied!

Re: Popping Question?
When they are that big it does take some more pressure.

Wow, that's would be a very big boy. I would venture a guess that he is a she being that size.

Re: Popping Question?
Why did you think he was a male in the first place? Was he popped male before you bought him? If it pops male its 100% male, if it doesn't pop male, doesn't mean its a female as males can "hold it in".
The biggest problem beginner poppers have IMO, is they place their thumb too close to the coacla so that they don't adequately "push" the hemipenes out as they start too far forward.

I got Djinn from a little mom and pop pet shop back in 06' I think.. I was told he's a he.. at the time I had no clue how to sex a BP. And the more I have read and learned from BP.net It got me thinking that he might be a she..
So I tried to pop and wasnt sure if I was doin it right and I didnt wanna hurt Djinn.. How far back from the coacla shuold I start with my thumbs?
Thank you in advance

Re: Popping Question?
The advice given is good but make sure you don't over do it. If you can't get it after a few tries one day let him/her rest until the next day and try again.

Re: Popping Question?
If he is a he, most of the times, even poping not exactly as you should do it, you will get at least sperm plugs with a male that size if you have an idea on how to pop.

With larger bps, popping can be trickier. If it was me, I'd tend to leave it as a male, just because it's hard to mis sex a male. Whether popping or probing, if you're getting that its a male, its a male.
However sexing females isn't 100%. They can hold their hemipenes, and if you probe and don't go in all they way, you can get false positives for a female.
That being said, if they just sexed it as a random guess or buy the size of the spurs or some other random parameter, then it could be wrong. Best bet is to find a local breeder who can show you.
Popping and probing aren't hard, but are one of those things that's best demonstrated with someone who knows what they're doing. Videos are good, but they don't beat a real live person able to help you.
