    BP never in hide
My ball python is never in either of his hides..

Both hides are small enough to be tight fitting but large enough that he can fit in them.

Temps are 92 and 84, humidity is 55%.

He just curls up in the corner.

Give him a while to get used to them. It might take a couple weeks before he feels safe enough to curl up in the hides. You can try putting him in one of the hides so he knows what they are :P

Neither one of mine sits in their hides either, I think they just need to get used to their new surrounding.

A digital thermometer/humidity measurer from Home Depot.

not to worry. some of them only use them on occasion. i have balls that are always in their homes and some that are almost never in their homes. and their on the same shelf on my rack. Kaorte is right though. if its a new snake just give it time to get situated and make sure your temps/humidity are good and eventually if it wants to it will use them. most likely after it eats or when its in blue.

Yeah, he uses his hide sometimes. He's in it right now actually.

My het pied female is just using her hide for the first time since I got her about 2 weeks ago. She also curled up in the corner. I tried putting her in the hide, putting her head near it... But today I checked on her and she's finally using it!

Just takes them time. They are masters in testing your patience.

    ok :D

I have another question. The bin I bought is clear, and I'm sick of taping newspaper over it. Could I paint the bin or would the fumes hurt the snake?

i think if u paint it let it air for like 48 hours then i think it would be okay but paint the outside only lol

and put tape over the air holes so the paint doesnt get into the cage

You don't really need to paint it. I made a little three sided barrier for my tubs when they weren't in a rack out of cardboard.

In my experience, clear bins are fine. I did that just because he was a hatchling in a new environment. He grew out of it though.

Or you could just put the bin in a dark place, like a closet.
