    question about my new bp??
i just got a beautiful img from the expo in ny. she is like a black and white. she has bright white on her sides and of course the flecking black spots. under she is like completely white with the exception of black spots under her chin. im trying to learn more about bps and the different morphs, so i wanted to know if this might mean she might have different genetics in her also? any comments on this will be much appreciated!!!! thanks!!

ok! oh and i checked on her again today and i guess i was so happy with her that i didnt realise it before but she does have spots of black all down her belly. does this mean she might have different genetics?

im going to post a few pics in a couple of minutes.

"Normal" or wild-type BPs will have these black spots all along the belly. Its actually a sign that it is only a normal. Most morphs (the ones with special genes) have a clear white belly. I say most because there are a couple morphs like the black belly that breeders are working with but not much info has been released yet.

Copy the direct link from the pics on photobucket. Then when you go to make your thread here click on the little box that looks like a mountain with a sun in a yellow sky. Erase the http in the box that pops up and paste the direct link from your photobucket into that box.

Re: question about my new bp??
Just copy the IMG code in Photobucket and paste it directly in the thread. I'll clear out those first attempts for you:)

Honestly thats a very cool BP you got there. It has markings similer to a cinnamon or black pastel. It does appear to be just a normal but a very nice one :gj:

There are new dark morphs being discovered all the time. With how dark yours is I would not be surprised at all. Was it sold to you as genetic img or was it just a random occurance in that clutch?

When we went up to the table she was in her container, underneath a Pastel and her label said IMG female.

Hmm then she was most likely one of those clutch flukes and is not from anything proven. Like a harliquin BP (SP?) If you ever plan to breed she would be great project. I would try proving her out for sure if she was mine.

Img is increased melanin gene. This can refer to a proven dark morph or a a new one.

    thanks so much again!!!!!!!

its usually best to use a normal when tryin to prove something genetic. Then you would get normals and whatever your snake is if she is a co dom or dominant gene. If you use another morph like a pastel you run the risk of creating a combo before you get an actual version of your snake. Then you would not be certain if that baby was just a unique pastel or a combo pastel "dark morph".

Your BPs markings and color are so unique that I would look for a reduced pattern/banded normal. That way you should know for sure if your BP is genetic with the very first clutch. The trick is to breed it to something that has a completely different pattern and color. Dont breed to another snake with the same type of pattern. Like a cinnamon or black pastel or anything with lots of alien heads, swirls, circles etc.. Then you would have no idea what you hatched because they would all look the same. Thats if yours is genetic and reproduces itself.

wow you are sooooo freaking helpful!!! i cant thank you enough on the info you have given me so far!!!!

i have a 100% het for albino male that i was planning on breeding her with... what do you think about that pair?

and i dont mean to make you explain further, but what morph exactly would you think make a good partner for her?

again thanks sooo much for everything you have taught me!!!

A het albino would be fine. Anything that is just het (except het reds) is just a normal that carries the gene for a recessive trait such as albino. If you breed your het to her then the offspring would be normals and whatever your snake is. If she genetic. It would be easy to tell which baby was what too. Also each baby would be 50% possible het for albino but you would have no way of knowing which ones were actually het.

I would just breed her to a normal. A het is just a normal with extra genes anyway so your het albino is a good choice to start with.

Re: question about my new bp??
ok great!! thanks so much again! i feel so much more ready lol!!

also, have you ever bred before?

if so, I know that the breeding season starts in november, do you know if every body should follow those rules, or try outside of the mating season for bps?

i only ask because i have heard supposed stories of people attempting to breed well before november and it actually working, but i have doubts about that.

    what do you think?

I start in october. Thats an early season. Some of my snake were started much later for a late season breeding. Anytime in the fall is a good time to start the cooling process. Many of us dont even do a cooling. Barometric pressure is thought to be more important than temperature in triggering breeding. Having a "rainy" season early spring helps too. Spraying down the enclosure after the cooling time will help trigger breeding. There are tons of tips and tricks. Just do alot of searching and research on here and the net. Pick up a good book like The complete ball python or Pythons of the world II.

These have alot of breeding info as well.

When you are ready just post whatever questions you were not able to find answers to.
