I've got a friend that has one male and he is the most evil snake of all times. Can't help you on the set up, I could ask him to give me a list.

I work with an adult female macklotts at my job (exotic pet store) and it is one snake I highly recommend feeding it in a separate tub.

Ever since I started feeding the her in her enclosure she has charged the cage door and struck at me when I open her the it. Oops..:P I feed her in a separate tub now.

I think it's just in the nature of this snake. They are nasty from what I've seen of them (somewhat limited exposure).

Well when we first got her in she was far from aggressive, not even food aggressive. So I've seen a change in her behavior.

Yeah, I don't know what to tell ya. I've only seen a few and all were agressive. My friend can't go anywhere near the enclosure without the snake striking towards him.

    Crazy!

When they were very little they were hellions. could'nt handle them without a glove now they are more relaxed and just over a year old. Beautiful snakes and a joy to keep!!!

They are usually flighty as babies but adults are usually pretty calm. My girl is a doll, just very inquisitive.

We have some adult breeders that we have had for quite a few years. They have a great feed response but are otherwise very-very tolerant of handling. So much so that my son who works the renaissance festival with his girlfriend does programs with them. Her skit is that of a belly dancer and the mac's are the primary snakes she use's for this. Go to www.chasenreptiles.com for some photo's of them being used. The babies that we have produced over the last few years are some of the evilest, nasty, biting things we have produced. They seem to calm down on their own without regular handling once they get about a year or mso old. Sooner if worked with. But yes they can go either way, temperment wise. Our set-up is just a 5' cage with bark or mulck as a bedding with some hides & branches. A very simple set-up.

Check out the Liasis subforum on here. I have a bunch of pictures of mine posted. I have a 1.1 pair and they're easily my favorite snakes out of the 8 species that I keep. Yes, they are a little testy at times, but as soon as I get them out I can do anything I want with them. The only times I've ever been bit have been when I reached into the tubs.

To solve that, I do one of two things... use a hook, (which is usually unnecessary) or distract them with one hand while I pick them up with the other. Once I touch them, they typically calm right down. They are very curious snakes and will usually follow me around the room from within their tubs.

One thing I've had to deal with that apparently most people don't is that both of mine went off feed this winter...mostly the male though, as the female kept eating, but less often. I emailed VPI and Dave Barker says it's not unheard of, but the snake has since picked back up after his 3-month break and is eating fine now.

I keep mine in tubs with cypress mulch and temps about 80-86 degrees over flexwatt. PM me if you'd like.
