Personally, I think Repti-Bark is way overpriced, and is crap for holding humidity, unless you pour half a gallon of water on it 18X daily.

Mimic shmimic. What qualities/purpose are you lookin for in a bedding? That might give you a better idea of what to look for. Are you looking for something inexspensive ? Aesthetic looking? what exactly.....there are just sooo many beddings out there. A newer one that I'm "piloting" is called Kitty's Crumble...it's made of 100% ground coconut fibers, and comes outta the bag moist. Holds great humidity, and cheap, because it's marketed as a "eco-friendly" cat litter. I'm tryin it out as hatch medium too.

I've tried them all, practically. Even different mixes. I came full circle back to aspen bedding for the boys. Much less mess and "dirt", easier to spot clean and holds the humidity pretty well.

Someone mentioned cypress mulch at Home Depot....I was wondering if the big bags for gardens would be the same as the small, overpriced bags from the pet stores? Or would the garden variety have extra chemicals in it?

the big bags at home depot are different in the way that they may have bugs. the small overpriced bags at pet stores have already been checked for bugs. im not sure about chemicals in the garden bags though...i'd imagine there shouldnt be any cuz its for the garden. any chemicals would hurt a garden...i'll call home depot & double check though.

Actually, ball pythons live on the African Savannah, and sparsely forested areas--not in the jungle.

& arsinoe- theres no chemicals in the garden bags at home depot, i checked with them.

I wouldn't go with cypress mulch. We used that with our first BP and every single bag had bugs in it, no matter where we got it from. I think you should go with Aspen, it's cheaper, lasts longer, holds humidity, and it's hypoallergenic (not sure if that'd matter for you). You can get a bag of Aspen at WalMart for 2.97 a bag. Plus with Aspen you can see the little trails your snake leaves when it moves around in it's cage :gj:

Not always true - if you go to PetCo or Petsmart and look through the plastic, you sometimes can see the little white bugs hopping around.

leave messages & i'll check this in the morning like i always do.
