I don't see how he would say no? Your going to save so much money in the longrun. Possibly thousands of dollars in your lifetime depending on how many snakes you have. Even if you have 1 snake you will eventually save money.
Just do it. You don't need someone elses permission

Re: cant breed
lol "just do it"?
i would but then it would cause problems between us & i avoid problems whenever i can, so...[shrugs]

Re: cant breed
why would it cause problems, breeding is a beautiful thing, and if you breed them you can sell them later if you truly cant take care of them all. So its even a possible profit

Re: cant breed

lol true. I am a youngin. Not married.
But I would never take one of those "because I said so" excuses to why I couldn't do something if and when I do get married. Especially over something as simple as breeding mice for snake food :colbert: Cmon now lol
Just explain to him that you will save money and you can even make money from it.

Re: cant breed
i wasnt even planning on selling any mice.
i was planning on breeding the male with the 2 females, letting the litter grow to the size needed, then use the litter as food for the snake & then only breed again when food was needed.
i tried to tell all this including the "we'll save money in the long run " bit, but my hubby just would not budge. he was not keen on the idea of alot of mice in the house with the possibility that they'd all escape. thats where he's coming from, & i understand his way of thinking, although i dont agree with it.

Re: cant breed
Why would you need to spend almost $60 a month to feed one snake? There's no need to keep the mice in the house at all, except as a contingency if the snake refuses to eat one week. And even then, it doesn't cost THAT much to keep a little mouse, or even two. I think you might want to reconsider your original feeding schemes and budgets. And breeding mice to feed one snake...while it sounds like a money-saving plan at first...can get quite overwhelming with extra mice very quickly.

Re: cant breed
Just do it.....can you tell I'm a happily divorced male? :D:D:D:D:D

Re: cant breed
Why are you spending $60 a month on feeder rodents. Here, mice only cost $2 for a large adult mouse. If you feed 1-2 per week for a young bp, that is still less than $20 per month. I spend $160 per month on my group but I have 13 snakes to feed.

Re: cant breed
i found those expensive mice at petsmart. after all my phone calls this morning, i found feeder mice at petco for $2.99 ea. ($14.95 for the month) instead of the $39.95.
-
Re: cant breed
the feeder rats at petco are $5.49 for small & $7.49 for medium. that's still cheaper then the $11.99 at petsmart. how big is a medium rat in comparison to an adult mouse? well n/m i guess i'll see when i get there.

Re: cant breed
petsmart doesnt sell for feeders. infact when yiu sign the contract your saying you wont use them as feedres. that you will care for the animal. if you keep buying a rat every week they will catch on and stop selling to you
unless your talking frozen thawed. cause they do sell those

Re: cant breed
To help you out,
I spend 12.99 per 50lbs of Kent rodent food which i use 4 bags a month.
Bedding is 4.89 per 40lbs of pine pellets and i use 2 bags a month
This is feeding and cleaning a production of 500+ rodents a month of mice and rats.
What i dont need i sell to a guy who needs live mice. Since i started i have not bought a single rat or mouse online or at a store again. Im completely self sufficient on feeding my snakes
