Do Ball pythons make any sounds?
The reason im asking this is because the last 2 nights for about 3 to 5 seconds i think she is making this loud hi pitch sound kind of like a party favor or a strange fart. i know this sounds crazy and i dont know if im have some really vivid dream or something. It just happned one time each night for a few seconds. Her temps are correct 93 hot 80 cool. She has no signs of a runny nose or druling. Any ideas, thanks.

They fart and they hiss. That is about it.

Sometimes if they have a little bit of stuck shed in the nostril, they will make a whistling noise.

So was that really a fart or a fart sound?

That's pretty funny. You should set up a hidden camera and catch the culprit.

my male loves to eat, and at 1200+ grams that means big poops. so one night he let it fly in the middle of the night. i was enough to wake me up, and i was like nothing i have ever heard. it could have been used as a sound fx for a bathroom scene in a movie

My black pastel does this, and I got him literally right before his last shed... so I'm just waiting for it to go away with the next shed! At first I thought maybe he was sick, but he's definitely not - it's actually kind of cute, but sounds like he's an asthmatic snake sometimes.

LMAO... my giant (1000g) corn snake did that once, and it literally exploded against the wall of the tub. Quite a sound! :rolleye2:

The next time you hear the noise, let your nose be the judge...

The first time one of mine farted it was pretty clear by the smell what it was. That, and the fact that he was wrapped around my arm when he did it...

Ahh, I hate snake farts. Actually, I hate all farts in general, but snake farts tend to take the cake. :D

I like to call my group of bp's 'the toot troop,' because almost every other night one or two of them cut the cheese and it gets pretty loud. Always good for a laugh, but they can really clear out a room.

You're snake was probably farting, though I can't say for sure because I wasn't there. The next time it happens, though, crack a window just to be safe ;)

My female ball python has recently started making the same high pitched sounds too. Its only a quick sound, but really loud and high pitched. She never used to do it, but recently we introduced a younger male to the tank and it has started. We did some research, and apparently it can be a loud nasal sound they make in tie with mating. Our male is only 7 weeks old, and wont be ready to mate until at least a year old, but our female is 2 years old and is very responsive to the male in the tank. They get along famously, so its not a territorial thing. Interesting though, we arent exactly sure what it means.

If she is farting, that would explain alot, and would be really impressive.

No. Virtually everything you have researched is wrong.

It is far more likely it is the result of either a piece of unshed skin in her nostrils or the start of a respitory infection from adding an unquarantined animal to her enclosure.

I know it is unquarantined as any decent QT procedures last longer than your male has been alive.

They do not make any noises as a result of breeding.

I'll bet you dollars to donuts your interpreting territorial competition and stress as " getting along famously"

And, since you ignored the "one animal one enclosure" recommendations, if it is an RI then you will probably have to take both to the vets.

I didnt choose to ignore anything. Go into nature and lift up a rock, see how many snakes you find. Ive been a snake owner/breeder for a long time, and although you may just be voicing concern, I do not think you are as educated as you believe you may be. I have taken both of my snakes to the vet, and both are healthier than ever. I have talked to all of the breeders I know, and none of them have ever had a problem housing 2 ball pythons in the same enviroment. Although the sound she is making is new to me, breeders i have conversed with have informed me it is a normal sound for ball pythons, especially females to make pre, as well as post shedding.
Thanks for the concern, but next time, no thanks.

I have only been a BP owner for 9 months now but I have not heard a single sound out of our snake except for once. A fart...and it was LOUD! It sounded like a human fart and she did it right after she pooped. It freaked me out at first and I checked about it online immediately(it was about 1 month after we got her) but I read other instances of them "farting" and she was acting normal so I figured she must be okay...

8 months later and she hasn't farted again.

I agree, what you have "researched" is wrong. It has been proven that male ball pythons can breed way less than a yr old. And, I wish I could go outside and lift up a rock to see how many snakes are under there. The problems is, I live in the states, not in Africa. Each species of snake is different, and should be treated that way. Just because two snakes are found together in the wild does not mean they can be housed like that, where they have no choice of leaving the other.

What are your "breeder" friends going to do when one gets sick? Sounds like they are doing it for their convenience, not for the snakes health. Respiratory Infection is not always apparent at the beginning either. Your male is only 7 weeks old. This is why they recommend a long quarantine procedure. Sometimes it takes awhile for symptoms of RI show. Better do a little more research before you start stomping on one of the most respected people on this forum.

Other than an RI are there reasons for a ball python to make sounds occasionally while breathing?

Yes, when they start shed cycle the first place to come loose is the skin in their nostrils making them whistle some when they breath :)

That's similar to my experience. My BP's setup is in my room.

One Saturday mourning at some ungodly hour like 4-5AM she let out this massive, LOUD fart noise that woke me right out of bed. I couldn't figure out what the hell the noise was. It was as if some somuwrestler had consumed 500 lbs of baked beans, sneaked into my room in the middle of the night, and unleashed it next to my bed. I was convinced someone had been in my room, until she did a quieter one and then pooped [she always goes in the same spot]. I don't think I've been that awake that early before without a LOT of caffeine.

Thankfully I didn't smell anything so it was just noise. If the smell had matched the noise I'd have gone back to sleep in my car. Far away.

Oh, not to derail the thread but didn't Dr. Steve Gorzula's expedition find ball pythons cohabitating in the same borrows? Its been some time since I've watched the DVD but I have it around here somewhere.

Not saying what happens in the wild should necessarily happen in captivity. Isn't there also a discrepancy between life-expectancy wild versus captive born & kept? I am under the impression that captive bred & kept BPs can live three times typical wild life-expectancies [20-40 versus ~8-12 years].

    Really??? I'm jealous!

Our Snickers poops and urates anywhere and everywhere in her enclosure. In her hides, in her water and everywhere else. One time my boyfriend was holding her and he let her crawl off his hand onto the coffee table and right before her cloaca got to the coffee table she crapped onto the floor.(thankfully we have a wood floor and not carpeting!)

Did you do anything special to make your BP poop in a certain area???

Best I can figure she likes to go in plants and that part of the tank is where I have a thick assortment of those plastic fake plants they sell in pet stores.
