I Got the Job!
I got the job at Petsmart! Woohoo! I go in for orientation on Saturday. I can't wait to start working again. It will feel so much better to have more money coming in. My husband could support us, but we had to stretch money a little. Now we will be able to start putting some in savings, paying off our debts and maybe even putting a little away for more snakes! I'm so excited!

Make sure to learn everything they teach you about snakes!

Re: I Got the Job!
Make sure you take care of the reptiles. You don't want someone comming on here complaining about your store.
Congratulations.:gj:

Congrats on the job. What position did you get? I work for their distribution warehouse in Columbus, OH. I think we ship to your store.

Re: I Got the Job!
Thanks everyone! :P
My manager knows that I am a reptile keeper so if anything, I'll be teaching them. :gj:
I will be working as a pet care specialist (reptiles, fish, small animals, birds) Every single animal under my care will be spoiled rotten. You all know that I will make sure those reptiles are cared for properly. I actually ENJOY cleaning cages, so no worries there. :D
Omg I start tomorrow. Even though this is a retail job that probably won't go anywhere, this is my first job working with animals. Now if only I could figure out what I want to go to college for. Veterinarian, zoo keeper, marine biologist, herpetology (can you major in that?). I dunno. See! I can't decide what to do with my life. Hahahaha. Of course, I could just become a big reptile breeder.

Re: I Got the Job!
I was a manager for that chain several years ago. You will soon learn, if ya get a chance to work at different stores, that there are some really good stores and then so not so good stores. I do believe for a big corporation they do try to do the best for the animals and the customers. Specialty dept. is an awesome section to work. If you do want to move up in the store/company it is a great one to learn the paper work that is needed. Hopefully you have both a great manager both with the store and the department.:colbert2:

Re: I Got the Job!
I got it too. Haha. Well I go in today for orientation. I can't wait to actually begin working with the animals. :D
I completely understand about the good stores and the bad stores though. I have seen some Petsmarts that I refused to buy ANYTHING from because one trip to the reptile section had me walking out the door. The one I'm going to work in is great. I have visited the reptile section several times and every time, the snakes have hides, temps were correct, fresh water in the bowls, clean bedding, no over crowding. The max number of snakes in one enclosure were two baby ball pythons. I hope I'm going to like working here. Of course, my husband is like "Oh no!" because I have a feeling I'm going to come home from work with a new friend all the time.

Re: I Got the Job!
First off - Congrats!! :banana::banana::gj:
I used to work that self same job in the same dept. and I loved it...until we got a new manager, but that's another story. :) Just make sure your managers are cool and the job should rock.
As for bringing home new friends...I wanted to do that SOO many times. It got to the point that I would have one or two favorite reptiles that I wouldn't let go to anyone who didn't really know about them just because I couldn't have them. :D My three main favorites were a Shneiders Skink, a Fat Tail gecko, and a veiled chameleon. I used to walk around doing my basic chores with one of them on my shoulder (or head in the case of the cham) or hand. :)
Have fun, and remember to tell those folks all the RIGHT info!

Re: I Got the Job!
I'm pretty sure I can't take pictures while I'm on the clock. I went in for my first day of training today and I am so pleased. While I was waiting for one of the managers, I kind of shadowed one of the girls in my area while she took care of the sick animals. They had rats and birds in the sick room and I can tell you one thing. They are so well cared for! Fresh clean bedding. Fresh food and water. Chew sticks and treats. :) (not to mention they are soooo adorable. They have a little blue dumbo capped female rat. I want her!)
My husband is definitely worried I'm going to come home with all sorts of critters. The girl I was shadowing today said that she has taken a lot of animals home that have been brought into the store. Either someone didn't want it anymore or they found it.

lol, i dont think you can major in herpetology (at least to start). but then again what do i know. For me im majoring in zoology next year, and after four years I can try and get into vet school. :please: Maybe they have certain fields that you can study in actual vet school, im not to sure.
It would be pretty awesome to work at a zoo. Im hoping that a major in zoology can get me some jobs? lol.. if im not able to get into vet school or something changes along the lines. My uncle told me that there arent many jobs for a major in zoology though.. (but its the best major to take to prep for vet school so i hear)
