NC, SC, VA Reptile shows
Ok well I was just wondering who is going to the shows in the Carolinas/Virgina? I am personally going to the Raleigh show on the 2nd of May and was thinking about the one in Richmond on July 25th? Seeing my Bday is the 24th I'm sure I will buy myself a nice present. Also has anyone been to these shows? Good turn outs?
In May I'll be looking for feeders. Shipping kills me. haha
Then in July I will be looking for a nice breeder sized Pastel for the season ahead and probably a female Blue Beauty. Seems like there isn't alot of these snakes going around and I would like to produce to keep their market going. They are WAY to pretty of snakes not to.

Re: NC, SC, VA Reptile shows
I'll be at the Raleigh show in May and the Winston-Salem show June 5.

Re: NC, SC, VA Reptile shows
I've never been, but I've heard the Richmond show is very small. I don't think you could count on getting something as specific and relatively rare as a breeder sized pastel or a blue beauty.
I support your idea about breeding blue beauties though! You are right, they are far too beautiful of a snake. They should be much more common than they are.

That sucks. I know there are shows further north in like Manass or something like that. But that is a 5+ hour drive for me. And idk if it's worth it.
And yea I really want to start my BB project soon. But my male I just got today is only 20 grams!! haha. But he is like 2 feet long just as thin as a pencil I find it funny how different they are compared to the BP's
Also has anyone hear anything about the Columbia show??

Re: NC, SC, VA Reptile shows
The Manassas show is right in my backyard, so I've been several times. It is not very big, and I've heard the Richmond show is even smaller. I would not drive 5 hours to go to the Manassas show. If you ever decide you want to go on a bit of a road trip to a show, I think you'd probably be happier driving twice as far to go to White Plains or Hamburg, which are supposed to be great shows.
Have you looked at Repticon's website? They have a lot of shows in the southeast, and are branching out a bit, so maybe they have some stuff closer to you.

I have been to both the Raleigh and Charlotte shows. I enjoy the Raleigh show, and usually a decent selection to choose from.

Re: NC, SC, VA Reptile shows
I'll be at the May Raleigh show. I've been to both the Raleigh shows for like the last 4 years. I'm always happy with the selection. Obviously, the May show doesn't have as many ball python babies as the September show, but it's still good. I've also seen Blue Beautys there several times. I've actually had the same thought, these snakes are so pretty! Why aren't they more common?

Hey are you Emily's room mate by chance? haha
And yea I was mainly going for the feeders but I have concluded to just breed my own rats now. So I might in the market for another BB by that time to match with my male. I want to breed these guys soooo bad now. They are just so cool. But I would imagine there will be more geckos in the May show and more snakes at the September show.

Re: NC, SC, VA Reptile shows
The thing I like about the Raleigh show is that it is at the State Fairgrounds so there is usually more than one event going on. I know in May, in addition to the reptile expo, there will be a gun and knife show going, a horse show, the state Karate championships and the usual weekend flea market. There is just something nice when you're walking to the parking lot with a case of ammo under one arm and a case of dead rats under the other arm...

Re: NC, SC, VA Reptile shows
I will be at both the May and September Raleigh Shows, and maybe the Winston show if I can make it there that weekend. Hopefully by the September show I will be in the market for a new BP for my collection. Depending on how many eggs I get, I might consider vending my babies and some herp related artwork at one of the later shows.

Re: NC, SC, VA Reptile shows
The Richmond show is very small but I go to every one of them. I did see a breeding sized pastel but it was a male. :P Manassas may be a better show to find what you are looking for. I hope to make the Manassas show in May as well (The 1st I believe, right?)

Re: NC, SC, VA Reptile shows
If it is your birthday, you should buy yourself something nice! My birthday is in May, so maybe I can just say "It is close to my b-day. I should get a snake!"

Re: NC, SC, VA Reptile shows
I'll be at the Raleigh show on May 1-2.
What do feeder mice normally run at these reptile shows? I was about to stock up from either aikenfeederfood.com or loxahatcheerodents.com as their shipping doesn't seem to be nearly as steep as other online suppliers.... and Aiken isn't too far at all from my home, so I wouldn't be surprised if FedEx ground delivered my order next day.
But... if I can still get my feeder mice for around $0.60 or so a piece at the show, I think I'll just hold out til then :)

Re: NC, SC, VA Reptile shows
I've been to the Raleigh show numerous times. It's always fun, but parking can be a bear due to the other shows going on.
Conrad Wernett, from Too Fast Reptiles, is a local breeder that always has some Blue Beauties that he has bred. He'll probably have some yearlings there from last summer. He's always at the Raleigh show. I got one from him 2 years ago and it is doing good...always hungry and cruising around during the day. You can look his myspace page up, I don't think he has a regular website any longer.
The Richmond show was OK when I went, it was a bit small but had a good turn out so it was pretty crowded. Some nice animals the day I went and it's usually only one day, Saturday.
The Repticon in Charlotte is pretty good too, about the same as the Raleigh show. Only been to that one once.
The Repticon in Columbia, SC (June 19 & 20) is the biggest one around that I have been too. They allow Hots there so you can see some cool stuff there from Cobras to Copperheads, Rattlesnakes and Gila Monsters.
