    Nice bite!

Are BRBs aggressive or kinda skittish? All of the BRBs I've run into haven't been in the best moods.

Also for people reading my post, I'm not saying BRBs are aggressive or bad pets in anyway. Just a question out of my curiosity.

Most are skittish. I had a trio back in the 80's and they were calmer, but I handled them more.

This was all my fault. I went into his cage to show a friend how pretty he is, and I took him out like he was a ball python. Can we all spell dumb.

is that really a bruise, THAT big!? i've been bitten (ok i guess "tagged") by my female brb, and all i got was a little blood and a lotta teeth marks.

did your snake actually bite and hold on?

that's what i'm REALLY afraid of, tag me all ya want!

but i've got this big old het. pied, whose right around 2000g, and he is EVIL! hence the name, DR. EVIL! i suspect he was only ever used for breeding, and NEVER handled. he hisses every time you open his bin for anything, and you better know EXACTLY where his head is, or else it's going to come flying out at you. i'm terrified of him biting and wrapping me, he could literally break one of my teeny, tiny baby sized fingers. to give you an idea of how small i am, i wear a size 4 CHILDS shoe, and i'm 21 years old.

i've been working with him though, and he's a bit better than when we first got him. crossing my fingers i never get a bruise as big as yours!

I think it's mainly to do with amount of handling, especially handling when they're young. My brother has a BRB that I wouldn't hesitate to hand to our grandmother, presuming she was inclined to hold it. That snake is totally docile and to my knowledge has only ever nipped my brother a few times when it was very young and still nervous.

TBH, I can't really imagine having a BRB and not handling it on a regular basis; they're so pretty, and since they hide so much, you never see them unless you pull them out. I guess that means that if I ever have one, it'll probably end up being pretty calm. :)

What none of the belly tag LOL. This BRB was in no mood to show of his colors that day but he is pretty what I could see of him as he repeatly struck. I do want a boa some day however a BRB is not for me. Nice pictures of the bite I wish we hadn't wiped the blood off before that first picture though.

No he just hit and ran. The reason for the big bruise is he hit a blood vein and it bleed under the skin. Really didn't hurt much at all. Just looks pretty.

Don't be afraid, the most always just strike, might tag you but not many will bite and wrap. I had an argentine boa do that once. The only thing to get her off me was listerine.

yea i have a baby brb & it strikes sometimes when i try & take him out the tank, once he's in my hands its the nicest snake ever. He strikes every single time after feeding. So this week i fed in the cage

Whats the best way to handle a BRB?

I am curious cause you said you tried to handle him like a ball.

    Nice bite by the way

Well, balls generally hide, or strike but not with intention of biting. I went into his cage, which is dark and picked him up. For most all boas it's best to touch them lightly on the head, or somewhere close with something other than your hand. Then go in and pick them up. I startled him.

Ohh I see, What do you touch thyem with aside from your hand? Like a stick? Or a handling rod?
