First Clutch of Eggs and I Messed Up!!!
I got my first clutch of eggs for the season this morning. Four eggs from a Sable to a Dark Captive Hatched Female I raised up. This is the end of the good news.
I have a rolling cart in my snake room that I use during cleaning. I took the tub out of the rack and sat it on the cart. The female was not wrapped around her eggs so I grabbed one of the eggs and sat it in an open container on the cart. I then reached in for the second egg and the female jumped back. As she jumped back she threw her tub into the other tub with the egg in it. Both tubs, snake, and all four eggs fell off the cart and hit the floor. It scared the crap out of me. I got the female in another tub in the rack and got the eggs into their incubation box. Three eggs are showing good veins and one egg has weak veins. Only time will tell how bad I screwed up!!!
I have learned from my mistake and hope the eggs will be okay.
I have talked with one other person who dropped an egg box but his was further into incubation. He only had one egg out of six hatch.
    Thanks
    Trey

    Hi,

I hope everything would be fine. :please:

Tim showed you could rotate eggs without problems and hopefully they didn't suffer any major trauma. :please: :please:

I once dropped an egg onto my foot and it bounced and rolled three feet under a table.

But this was right at the very end - I had taken it out to cut. When I did cut it I swear the snake gave me a dirty look.

I have never bought into the whole "right side up" with eggs...

I have had multiple eggs roll on me for different reasons...and every single one of them have hatched.

I have never dropped eggs tho. The obvious important issue is that they don't break. After that, it just crossed fingers topped with wishes and prayers. My thoughts...I don't think much harm can be done to the development of the embryos this early in the incubation...guess we will see.

    Good Luck!

Haven't had any snake eggs yet, but I've hatched tons of chicks and ducks before, and it is never a good feeling dropping one. Although, with harder shelled eggs they pretty much just go splat :(

If they were JUST laid you may get lucky, but the embyos do become fixed in the "north pole" position and such movement will tear blood vessels and thus terminate anymore development..Odd that you turn a bird egg twice a day or more but reptile eggs like to be left alone..Best wishes and PLEASE keep us posted..

As I understand it, they're pretty resilient to being jostled a bit in the beginning. A fall later in development would be more traumatic. I'm keeping my fingers crossed with you!

They stand a good chance--the main risk with a fall like that is, basically, 'scrambling'--breaking internal membranes and blood vessels. If they haven't suffered that (or enough of it to cause real harm, anyhow), then they should be fine. They can actually take quite a bit.

    Trey,
Grats on the first clutch of the year. 2 years ago, while weighing a clutch, I knocked the tub off of the scale, and dropped the whole clutch on the floor (about a 3.5' fall). All of the eggs hatched fine. I think you should be fine, but only time will tell. Good luck.
