    Blue Beauty Questions
Well guys I feel in love with Blue Beauties and am having a female shipped to me Wednesday. Here is what I have so far:
18ish gallon tub (tall tub I think it was 71 quart) has a locking lid and I tin foiled the inside part of it to hold in heat and humidity seeing the tub is so tall.
20 gallon UTH reading around 85 on the cool side finally go it dialed in right
    Two self made "branches"
Two hides on paper towel bedding
Also 3 sides are covered with black duct tape to make it feel happy and secure with the forward facing part open
Im about to drill holes and wondering where and how many I should drill. (using a 1/4 inch bit)
There humidity seems to be a mystery for some reason but guessing by there place or origin I would say a humidty around the same as BP's? 60ish?
I was thinking doing about 15 across the front on the top in 3 different rows.

Any help would be great or pics of your BB enclosure.

And here she is, one of the prettiest I've seen. =)

Blue beauties are amazing, what breeder did you get her from.

My love is asian ratsnakes, and they have a common range of care requirements.

First you really don't want her hot spot over 85 ever 82 83 is perfectly fine.

2nd I don't know how big that tub is in inches but I think the blue beauties might be the biggest of the asian rats.

3rd- 70 percent is really a better aim. But you'll be okay with 60 try to provide her a humid hide though, asian rats love those. Just get a tupperware dish, cut a whole in the lit, fill with sphagnum moss and mist daily. Try to find one with a colored lid. an opaque one is even better.

Here's a good site with some nice info

Congrats again on your purchase I am envious. I haven't been able to find one.

Thanks, yea I have been looking for many months for a nice one. It was inbetween a Blue Beauty or a BRB. I feel in love with the BB after I got to handle one. She is an late 09 female and the tub is around; 12 wide, 16 deep/long and 22 inches tall/height. It is nice for up to a year old BB from what I read.
And I heard the ambients should be fine 70-75? Cuz that is damn easy to keep. haha
And the Breeder is a place called Reptile Rapture. Someone on here recommended it to another member when I was searching for breeders. And from looking at the other Blue Beauties for sale he is def a higher end breeder. He does charge alittle bit more for them but a better snake is worth the money.

Yes Asian ratsnakes are much much easier to keep than ball pythons IMO.

70-75 ambient, no higher than 85 max basking. Humidty is there only big hurdle. They can be nippy but I like that about them

You seem to have it down, Get her a good humid hide and you should be set. and remember MOAR PICS PLZ!!! :D

I totally agree, you pay more for a high quality animal.

Oh I will have a whole thread on the incoming animals. 2 leos and the blue beauty are due on Wednesday. haha
And they don't actually "bask" right. The warmest part is on the floor where their hide is correct?

    Re: Blue Beauty Questions
Well I use UTH's. I set the thermostat to 84 and I leave the rest to room temp which ranges from 74-67 at night

I Put in alot of hides to. One on the cooler side, one in the middle, and a humid hide and another small hide on the warm one.

Then again I'm not using a grow up cage. So more hides is a must for me.

Haha yea this is a "grow up" cage. Will be getting an AP 50 gallon after she out grows the tub.

My cages cost alot but they are very pretty Neodesha's. Made for venemous but good for colubrids to.

Once I get my state return I will probably move my BP into a different cage and put a Rhino Rat in her old one.

Well he's been in there a day now. My hot hide is great chilling at 82-83 but ambient temps are 77. The accurite has the prob on the hot spot and the unit in the center of the cage about half way up on the side.

He is chilling in the cool hide so I'm wondering if the ambient temp is to high?

Ting has been doing the same mike. I know these snakes like cool temperatures. but 82 to 83 is perfect.

MY guy when I saw him tonight had his mouth wide open staring at me. What does that mean? I've seen that in baby ratsnakes when they look defensive.

Perhaps his hides are to big? I dunno.

Yea my bp's hiss and bite when I get them all till they eat for the first time. My normal bit me twice before he settle down. It's prob b/c they were just shipped. I wouldn't be worried.
Yea i was worried about the high 77 degree ambient temp? I am trying to get it down but my leos and bps are in the same room which is norm at 75 degrees and the heat mat brings up the leos and bps ambient to 80's.

You'll find out if the hides are to big if they don't eat. But he is hiding so I'm guessing he is doing good.

    Re: Blue Beauty Questions
I am guessing you might have a snake room with a higher ambient temp?.

I think 75 or 77 would be fine for a blue beauty's ambient. thats what The ratsnake foundation says. You may right your breeder if your worried.

As for me I keep my snakes in my cool living room. Which is Why I have to heat both sides of my Ball pythons cage...she just loves it I'm sure :P

Eventually when I get my boa and anaconda I'll probably have to do the same.

But my future colubrids will do fine in it.

Ting's low is 70. He's been hanging there all day.

it couldn't hurt to ask your breeder but I think 77 is fine. I am glad to know the open mouth isn't a horrible sign.

Will the moss mold in the humid hide? I've got one for my BRBs, and I just keep damp paper towels in it (that I change every couple of days). I haven't had mold problems, but it would be nice not to have to change it so often.

Also, she's gorgeous! BB definitely on my short list. :-)

Yea I think it might have been you who recommended them but idk. Either way he was great to deal with and the best looking BB I've seen yet.

I keep paper towels too for both my leos and my BB. I had the paper towels in the leo tank for a a week at the longest so far and no mold has grow on it. I was going to see how long it would take to grow but I don't want to push it. I would say 2 weeks at the max. Also my leo tank is only at 30% humidity at all times so with a BRB or a BB and the humidiy being in the 70's normally it may cause it to grow faster. But I am going to change mine every 1-2 feeding and spray it daily.
