What do you think, is it a normal or super pastel?

Hello everyone! I picked up this boy at the NARBC show in Arlington TX from VPI, and am wondering what you all think, is it a regular or super pastel? The reason I ask is, this one was mixed in with the normal pastels which were much darker then him, and when Tracy picked him up for me to buy, she said "I think this one might be a super that accidentally got mixed up with the normals". Anyway she sold him to me at a normals price of $250. So take a look and let me know what you think. I am not sure. VERY gorgeous snake though.. Wow. Either way his babies will be fantastic.

Although that would be EXTREME generosity, IMHO that is definitely a super!!! So Jealous

Even if it wasn't a super, can you imagine the supers it could produce?!?!

Since they know the differance i dont think they would sell a super at a normal pastels price ;).Its nice looking either way :gj:

Looks super to me. It may have been an oversight on their part as they said and were just giving you a deal.

Thanks for all of the input! I will be breding him to my butter female, and if I get half pastel butters and half pastels, then I'll know for sure. Ether way he is beautiful, and I highly recommend doing business with VPI, they are great people and have outstanding animals.

Hmm. It is either a very nice pastel, or a super, but not a super nice super. I'd expect VPI to have very nice pastels, so that part does not surprise me.

It is possible it was in with the regular pastels, because it came from a breeding that had no chance of producing a super, therefore, no matter how "super" it looked, it was the het form of pastel.

In some ways, if it were my snake, I'd be hoping it WASN'T a super. If he looks that good as a regular pastel, imagine the supers he'll be able to produce!

As you said, you'll find out for sure when you breed him.

I would have to say Super.

The yellows on him are BRIGHT and very high and the blushing is insane. That would have to be a grade A Pastel if it were to be a Pastel, but it's yelling Super at me because I know for a fact that a normal Pastel of that size wouldn't be as bright as that specimen right there.

The more I think about it, the the more I'm sure she new, but was just being nice because it was misplaced and I was excited. Tracy sure is a sweet lady!:) I'm sure Dave is nice to, but I didn't get to meet him.

I say super!

Not sure. All I know is that working with VPI is always rewarding. I have two amazing Axanthics that came from them at a very low cost, because they were extremely busy and were appologetic for taking so long to get back to me (only a couple days btw). Needless to say, I spent under $450 for the two together. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if it turned out to be a pleasant surprise super from VPI. Extremely generous people!!

It looks like it could be a super. I bought a super pastel 2 years ago that "looked" like a super when he hatched and then darkened into what looked like a really nice reg pastel. Well I bought him for a little more than a reg pastel and it turns out he is just a mid grade super instead of an awesome pastel. Either way you win!

I'm goin' with super ;) either way, that is one amazing :snake: :gj:

Oh good old Tracy the saleswoman. "mixed up" huh? The "normal price" for a male Pastel is about $50 to $100 nowadays. BG doesn't care who's name is on it.

That is one nice Pastel. One of the best BG has ever seen anyway. Wonder how such an "expert" could make such a "mistake".;):D

Why don't you just ask VPI ? I'm sure they would know.

But IMO it is a super and a nice one at that.

$250 is still a ridiculous price for a Super...

I have good news and bad news for you......

This is a very ironic situation because I was talking to Tracy at the table during the NARBC about my brass ball and breeding projects and she realized at that very point the exact question that you have posted up on the forum.

She turned around and looked at her helpers and said.....

I know what that ball python was that we thought may have been a super....

She said that you have in you very possession a Vanilla Pastel...and she was looking for your number to tell you what you have in your collection now.

I was thinking at that very moment, I wish I could catch a break like that...now you have. Congrats.

And if that's true I Agree with BG

It would go a long way toward your rep with the breeder if you retured it and got the correct animal. Now that's totally up to you, but put yourself in Tracy's shoes honestly in her shoes and think how much you'd respect the person that brought it back. Never know she make just reward your honesty..

Yes that was a Pastel Vanilla! I was looking to call-but had to go away and be with my mom for her to have some surgery, so quite a bit of time has gone by!

No problems here with me- I totally looked at the snake-and said-wow that is a nice pastel-forgetting I had brought it to pair up with a super Vanilla female!

I did appreciate the fun of someone getting a great combo and thinking he was getting a "normal" pastel!

You know I like getting good deals myself-kind of like Antique Roadshow, which is one of my favorite shows!

Wow....amazing....Tracy that is incredibly nice of you, im speechless. AS for the animal it is beautiful. When i first took a glance at it my thought was firefly. And i was real close because vanilla pastels and fireflys look very similar. If it had the typical crazy head pattern of a vanilla it would have been a dead give away. Congrats on your one in a million you lucky dog!!!

I know, Tracy is super nice. Have any of you listened to her interview on reptile radio? It's really good.

OMG! This is a really great story! And Tracy is A+++ in my books for doing that. :gj:
