Surprise Eggs!
We picked up two adult females and a year and a half-old mojave (Betty, Lila and LaFleur) from a friend back in November. They were pretty stressed out and had RIs, so we took them into the vet and nursed them back to health.
Well imagine my surprise when after coming home from the movies pretty late at night, I found Betty sitting pretty funny. I actually thought she was dead for some reason, and when I reached in to pet her, she huffed and puffed like she never had before and s'd up to reveal eggs... I swear I nearly fainted. She wasn't supposed to be gravid, and we missed alllll the signs, clearly.

She had two big gorgeous ones with TONS of veins, and three slugs. Of course we were scrambling to get our incubator on and up to temperature at about midnight, lol. But we got the two eggs all settled, and they're due to hatch mid-April. The mojave, LaFleur, is the father, so we've got our fingers crossed!

Yup, she laid them in February, but I'm just now posting about them. I think I was just superstitious that if I posted about them right away, they'd go bad. Irrational, I know, and they could still have complications, but when we candle them and see the little snakes breathing and twitching, I just had to share.

Thanks, she just looked so proud! She REALLY didn't want to give them up, she was pretty determined to take care of them herself. I apologized deeply, gave her a bath, and then a nicely thawed rat. I think we're forgiven now. :P

Thanks so much! And don't worry, I think when they hatch I'll badger them with the camera for weeks, lol!

Re: Surprise Eggs!
I have some females that are little terrors on their eggs, and others that actually seem relieved when we remove them. I actually think they get used to it after a few years.
