    Detroit bound...any suggestions?
I'm about to take a few days vacation with a buddy of mine up to the Detroit area. Any sight seeing suggestions? food suggestions? don't-go-there suggestions?

Why are you taking a vacation to Detroit? :P I live right on the Detroit border but don't visit so I don't have any suggestions for you... Except to (if you have a passport) come visit Windsor while you're in the area! We have a killer Casino.. :D

casino windsor is over rated (unless your not 21 yet) mgm, greektown and the motor city are far better casinos and he wont have to spend 5 hours waiting to get over the bridge or threw the tunnel to get there.

but the casinos, motown museum, they have done some nice things with the riverfront, henry ford museum ,greenfield village ,holocaust memorial just to name a few. where in the detroit area you going to be exactly? cuz that would help find things to do more localy and all. if your in the royal oak area just hit downtown royal oak park and almost any business you walk in at night youll have fun. what kind of things you looking to do also?

Probably is overrated. I've never been so I can only say what I've heard. I still say if you're up to it come visit Windsor. :)

Give yourself a rap name like Nate-Dawg and go down to 8 Mile Road. Then enter a rapping contest, win it, make millions of dollars, and finally get a movie made about your experience.

At least that's what I would do. :P

Way to play into the medias hype people.

When your saying bring a gun, vest is no better than whats going on with the snakes industry. Detroit has bad parts yes, not all of Detroit is bad, just the people in the areas make them bad.

I Lived in Michigan my whole life and worked in Detroit 2 miles from Comerica Park and NEVER once felt i was in danger. But According to your guys minds form what you read its dangerous. Keep listening to the news 99.9999% of that is all the bad, they never brodcast the good amd its very rare they do.

Irritates me when people who never been anywhere near the city can tell others that its bad just from what they read or see on tv. Which is okay to you but when it comes to our hobby its not okay to believe it. Kinda Hypocritical.

If you are not a Casino man, see the Detroit Institute of Arts. It's very worthwhile. Contrary to what you may hear, Downtown Detroit is as safe as can be. However, if you stray off the expressways in the City, you should definitely either know where you is or be wif someone who do. If I can be of any assistance to you let me know. What community will you be staying in? 771subliminal's suggestions of the Royal Oak bar and restaurant scene is good as well as the holocost museum and Greenfield Village and the Henry Ford Museum.

You defiantly need to see where you are from Greenfield village to watch a move in the Imax theater.

8 Mile Rd is nothing more than the Northern boundary of the City of Detroit. No big rap stuff happening there. Just a lot of topless bars. :rolleye2:

Also grew up in a little suburb just outside of Detroit.

Yeah, Fashionable Ferndale and Royal Oak are the best spots.

8 mile road is singularly unexciting.

If you see a lot of burned buildings and grafitti, lock your car doors. There are some places that you probably don't want to be loitering at night, lol.

Keep in mind that Detroit isn't what it used to be right now. The recession has smashed it HARD.

    .

you just decribed a big % of south of 8 mile there. you can find gragitti and burnt out buildings any area you got to. but you dont have to be too worried in the city 95% of the crime isnt random its between people that know eachother.

have you found out what area youll be going to yet?

Hey, I grew up in the car-jacking era, lol.
Like I said, though...it's pretty gloomy there, now, and it's not the place I knew, as a result. I never trust desperate people.
