Re: Scaring aunt with my ball python!!
:rofl::8:
My boyfriend has a grandmother who, if you just mention the word "snake", she'll have nightmares for a week. I'm not so mean as to scare her with mine, cuz it sounds like she has an actual phobia, but I can only imagine what her reaction would be!

Re: Scaring aunt with my ball python!!
Gee, I wonder why snakes and their owners get such a bad rap?
Oh yeah, that's right. Because a select few fail to respect the phobias of others, and give the rest of us bad names.
-
Re: Scaring aunt with my ball python!!
Yeah.....I didn't particularly find terrifying your aunt all that funny. :(
Agree with MiniJ83.
-
Re: Scaring aunt with my ball python!!
I didn't find that funny either.....some people are deathly afraid of snakes. When I'm aware of those folks, I keep my snakes out of sight, to respect their feelings. It possible people like her are the ones who who may feel we shouldn't have them as pets. And little stunts like that make it just a wee bit tougher to get people to assist us in our rights to keep our pets. :(
-
Re: Scaring aunt with my ball python!!
have to agree....I didnt find it funny either...sorry! In the age where our rightsas snake owners are in jepordy...we need to change ppls fears....not enhance them.

Re: Scaring aunt with my ball python!!
Seeing it from both points of view here...I did chuckle a little bit, but I feel sorry for your aunt! If I were her and I had a fear like that, I would have slapped you square across the face after that. And you would have deserved it! There are just some things you leave alone.

Yea the person holding the snake was her daughter. LOL i was not even filming.
If i where present i would not have let it go down for 2 reasons.
1) my snake could have gotten hurt.
2) I dont like messing with peoples fears.
But hey since it did already happen what can you do.

Most things that you see in TV and such that are funny are not meant to be funny... Don't jump the gun on the OP. I'm sure everyone has seen their share of America's Funniest Videos and worse than that, those kind of things are not planned ahead.

Yes, but scaring her aunt was planned by someone who knew she was afraid of snakes. And then posting it on Youtube just further goes to put a negative spin on snake keepers.
-
Re: Scaring aunt with my ball python!!
Yes I agree don't get me wrong, but she did not did it. Like she said, what's done is done. What is she suppose to do now? Go back in time and change it? She cant do that.
-
Re: Scaring aunt with my ball python!!
By the way ima male ;)
I was not even there when this took place.
O and also her daughter (one holding the snake in the video) did not know her mom had a fear of snakes so she was kinda caught off guard.

Totally agree with You on that Robin... In that sensitive times for our hobby this "innocent" prank could be used to put another shadow on snake keepers.... showing how "immature" and "irresponsible" people who keep snakes are. And putting this video on Youtube just give more ammunition to another Anti-Snake Ignorant Guns....

Did not do it (yes), didn't know about it (maybe) however proudly post this video for everyone to see thinking it's funny..............All the same to me and not what we need, I would rather see video of people educating others that might have fears than that.

Re: Scaring aunt with my ball python!!
I saw this post last night before I went to bed, and I was surprised that everyone was giving praise. I was not impressed by the video at all. I just got home from work, and revisited the thread to see if I was the only one that disapproved -- I'm glad there are other sensible people out there as well.
Whether the OP new about the happenings or not is besides the point -- as others said it was in poor taste to post it on YouTube.
Scaring someone that doesn't care for snakes is all wrong. I have several friends that were scared of snakes. Instead of scaring them, I tried to reason with them, and try to find out where there fears stemmed from. Most of them had never seen a snake up close, and were just scared out of ignorance. I convinved a lot of them to at least touch my snakes, and then after a while they asked to hold them. After that, most of them love snakes now.
If I had scared them, they probably would be less likely to even consider having anything to do with snakes.
Alright, I'm off my soapbox now... :)

Re: Scaring aunt with my ball python!!
Okay guys. Big update.
This little incident actually helped my Friends Aunt in overcoming her fear of snakes. Its great to see how far she has come from dropping radios :D
She now holds my ball pythons without a problem which is great

Re: Scaring aunt with my ball python!!
I am totally appalled and horrified, and yet I can't stop laughing.
Well, you can't claim it wasn't pre-meditated, since you brought a video camera along! Is she every going to let you in the house again?

Naw, I was probably too busy typing my post or scanning the rest of the thread. I'm glad she's over it! (I'd still never let you in the house again. Out of GRATITUDE.) ;)

Ok now that was funny..... Man LOL glad she didnt have an heart attack LOL

Re: Scaring aunt with my ball python!!
Cant say i really found this funny, mildly chuckled at most obly because i laugh at random stuff all the time, but because of the situation we are in, this only hurts our efforts to let us keep these animals. I can guess this wasnt done to be cruel but a number of things could jave gone wrong and also makes it look like snake owners are irresponsible. Maybe not all of them but it does hurt our image even more. ots better to educate people and help our cause rather than have fun with peoples fears and put us in a tougher position.
-
Re: Scaring aunt with my ball python!!
The video, posting it on YT, and scaring people who fear things with their fears screams PURE stupidity to me. Simple as that. I have things I could comment, but do I feel it matters? Nope.

This times infinity.

Re: Scaring aunt with my ball python!!
Yeah, some people are deathly afraid of snakes. One girl actually vomited when she was told I keep them.
A while back I was chased out of a pet store by a crazy customer, though I was clearly buying a mouse in a tank that said in big letters "FEEDER MICE". She seemed to know that I was going to feed it to a snake. I heard her say she planned on buying all the feeder mice so I couldn't kill anymore of them...
When possible, I try to educate people about snakes, knowing phobias can be very strong in some individuals, I don't push the limits. Usually when a person sees you holding the snake calmly, and how well behaved the snake is, they will settle down, some even want to hold it, especially children.
I think TV has a lot to do with brainwashing people about snakes. You never see a calm happy snake on TV, they're always striking or killing something. Its no surprise that one of my friends, an avid snake hater, always asks me if my snakes tried killing me yet, or if they've bitten me yet.
As for the YT video, if that snake was a spider, I'd probably of took off like that too! Spiders freak me out big time!
