For those that use RBI racks.... how low do you go?

For those that use RBI racks.... (especially the CB70 racks with 2 rows of belly heat tape)

What is the coldest room that you keep your racks in? how cold does it get?

Do any of you in Florida, Georgia keep them in your garage? If so, in the winter time how cold do you let the garage get?

Anything you can share on this would be great!

I live in the Atlanta area, and though I keep the ambient in my snake room (which is a large walk-in closet in my house) around 79-82F, the lowest ambient temp I've ever allowed was 76F. With an ambient of 76F, the cool side in the RBI CB70 tub was still a couple of degrees higher. The RBI CB70 racks seem to retain heat well; however, I use an oil-filled heater year round, even in the summer, because the rest of us in the house like cooler air conditioning, but I keep the snake room toasty. My best results have been with ambient temps 79-82F, cool side 80-82F, hot side 91-93F. Since I switched to the Herpstat t-stat last year, my temps stay very consistent.

That's what works for me, but your mileage may vary. Cheers.

i dont have a rack but i keep mine year around at about 79 degrees

76 is normally the lowest mainly stays around 80-81

the lowest my house gets is around 75....the rack stays around 80 in the front 91 in the back.

75 to 78 degrees.

huh.. so I guess no one keeps them in a cooler room then... I currently keep them in a room that gets down to about 68 degrees at its coldest, and the racks still keep their temp fine....

I was just curious to see if anyone goes lower then that.

mine stay at about a 72-75 degree room temp. usually 72. by the summer though i will be moving out to my own place and will have a snake room set up for them.

I don't have an RBI rack, so this is just a more general statement.

My room temps tend to be in the low 70's during the winter. Our homemade racks keep the temps warm enough inside the rack just fine.

However, I bet if I'd had a warmer room temp, I might not have gotten 2 RIs out of 9 snakes when the heat in one of the racks failed. On the other hand, if it had been a case of the t-stat failing and the rack overheating, the cool room temps might have saved the snake's lives.

yea we pay the extra money to keep the house warmer due to the snakes and the beardie. :rolleyes: My husband LOVES those heating bills...lol.

You could also get a space heater for that room only to keep it a little warmer.

I have to ask, at what temp do you run your t-stat? I have mine set at 96 and the nights here lately have been at 70-72. I set up the A/C heater at 70-72, to at least keep it at that.

A little unrelated but i thought i would share it none the less, we have written an article about RBI the company itself over at the blog if you wanted to learn more about them :)

A question too....how much does it cost to run one of those oil filled heaters all year round, anyone know?

My thermostat on my CB70 racks is set to 96 year round. that keeps the warm side of tub at about 90 degrees.

I guess I just need to experiment but I figure these RBI CB70 racks with two rows of belly heat tape can probably handle a much cooler room temperature then one would think....

What kind of thermostat do you use? I have a ranco still. Im planning to get a herpstat ND as soon as Im able to.
