difference between woma and reduced pattern
Hi, I have been looking online to find pictures that provide a noticeable difference between womas and reduced pattern balls. I have also looked on the "HUNTERS GUIDE ..." sticky thread above. Genetically, I know they are quite a different animal, but I still see no visible difference between the two. If I can ask for somebody who knows a general rule used to distinguish these snakes from one another, I would be most appreciative. Thanks

BG will answer your question in two words.
Not much.
Big Gunns has been looking for that "secret, hidden, top secret gene" in Womas for years.:taz: Maybe they should change the name to the Big Gunns snake.:D

GOOD ANSWER BG!
Buying from a reputable breeder.
A good looking woma in my opinion looks like a spider without the white sides and extreme head pattern

I wouldn't buy a woma unless it looked exactly like a spider minus the white.
I couldn't have described them any other way. Hell, the last Woma I saw (which I bred to a couple of my females) even had a wobble like a spider.
Re: difference between woma and reduced pattern
i just got a woma bp as a pick up ill be posting soon and this one i can deff see the differnce head color patterns and over all gold tone you have to see one in person to really see also got a belly shot
Re: difference between woma and reduced pattern
With some morphs they do have some strange affects. Look at the wannabee. The woma bee combo is a highly speckled, high white snake. Kinda looks like a calico bee?
I have seem plenty of womas that look like reduced pattern normals but mine is very golden in color with beautiflu green eyes and a reduced tiger stripe pattern.
A good one is unmistakable. SOme have a hidden gene but some dont. Like BG said, the mystery is ongoing but they are beautiful and very useful.
Re: difference between woma and reduced pattern
Thank you all for responding. I actually just purchased an '09 female woma for 350. Her patterning is unmistakably woma-esque. Her eyes, however, are rather dark for a woma. The only reason I question her genetics is because the person I bought it from is not an incredibly well know dealer. But everybody has to start somewhere. I guess my next question is, how common is it to find reduced pattern balls that look exactly like womas? Thanks
Re: difference between woma and reduced pattern
We purchased a beautiful reduced pattern ch woma-like female back in 06 she and has produced the most beautiful reduced pattern spiders. She is VERY similar but she does not have a patterned head. While she is not a woma she is makes great babies.
Re: difference between woma and reduced pattern
Thanks kellys, what colour are her eyes?
Re: difference between woma and reduced pattern
I posted this post today and it has a picture of the woma that I purchased from BHB

In my opinion the biggest difference is that with the womas I notice a lighter color than on the reduced pattern normals.
Re: difference between woma and reduced pattern
Very nice looking woma! Thanks for the pics
