Today is the day I pair my normals!! (3-12-10)

I'm so excited, I've been waiting for this for such a long time. I'll get photos when I see a lock no matter if he's in or out;) Wish me luck! I hope you all have a great year with breeding!:salute:

Quick question, what kind of enclosure are you keeping them in? Mine tend to hide in separate hides all the time......will they do their business at night?

every snake is different. I keep mine in tubs. the tub size depends on the size of the snake but i have an albino male that if u put him with a female he will instantly get to work and work her over same goes for my pastel.Then there are the males that take a day or so in the tub to get there thing going. I guess some just got game and some need to drink so to speak a lil to get that extra edge hahah

Thanks everyone I appreciate the comments!! They have been locking up like crazy and it's kind of cool to just see my first two Ball pythons breeding and soon my very first Ball python will be giving me a clutch.

Haha you're on!
I'm keeping mine in Sterilite tubs. They normally do their business all through the day when they aren't disturbed. Take the hides out of the enclosure because it will get in their way of doing their business (from what I was told--thanks Rich!). But remember to take the male out to rest for a few days. I'm doing 3 days in 3 days out.

Alrighty, update:
SO my first male, who is pretty large, was not getting his lock on, so he lost his lady to a younger man, my 08. Since the two have been together it has been one long lock-tastic time. He is going to definitely need a rest in a few days the way he is going.
So I am already a day behind you on the lock........shoot. I think this guy knows we are losing though, so he is givin' all he's got.

Yea tiff at this stage since you just started pairing her, your not feeling follicles just yet.

I thought they could develop follicles without mating having taken place?

I know the info about the pairings helping stimulate those follicles to grow but I don't think male attention is needed for the first stage?

Granted I am not exactly up on this stuff but my biggest girl has Huuuuuuuuge follicles now and I only started putting her with any males when I happened to feel follicles by accident while moving her for cage cleaning.

Incidently I popped the male today after taking him out on day three and got sperm plugs yet again so I suspect my lothario is actually more of a layabout. :rolleyes:

This is true with sexually mature females but ive noticed virgins dont develop on their own with out the males stimulation to kick start her.

I just woke up to see my snakes locked! They were coiled perfectly flat on the substrate, and their tails were right in the center pointing a couple inches straight in the AIR!
Sadly I missed the photo of a life time because by the time I got the camera, they had lowered their little show. I seriously wanted to laugh when I saw it.

She's being hangin' around the cool end lately, so I guess that's a pretty good signs she's building:D What're the signs that have been goin' down with you?

What?? You are too lucky. My female seemed to stop in the process, she's now hanging around the cool end. No signs of follicle building either, I tried palpating a couple times and I just couldn't feel anything. I'm going to try to put more weight on her to see if that will help, she was sort of small to begin with.

Good luck with your female, from reading it seems like you've got good signs goin' on!

Normals will always be bred no matter what, even though there are a lot more normals than we can count, at least we know the Ball python population isn't going into endangered.
