What would you get if you were me?

Boys and girls,

I currently have a 0.1 pastel and 1.0 spider (09's). I want to plan ahead and expand my collection a bit. Have about $1500 CND for budget.

Right now I'm thinking 0.1 Lesser (for sure). 1.0 Mojave, 0.1 Pinstripe, 0.1 normal

This should allow me to do this:

1. Pastel x spider = Bee
2. Lesser x spider/ Mojo = BEL or Lesser Bee
3. Pinstripe x Mojo = Jigsaw
4. Normal x Mojo/ Spider

Of course in the case of 1 and 3, I can use the other male as a back up.

So, the question is: what would you guys get if you already have 0.1 pastel, 1.0 spider, 0.1 lesser (co-dom and dom morphs only)?

If I had 0.1 Pastel, 1.0 Spider, and 0.1 Lesser, and had an additional ~$1500 to spend....

I'd get rid of the Spider and buy a Bumble Bee male ($600-800)

Get a male Mojave ($250-$350).

I'd get another female Lesser ($500-600), and a female Pinstripe ($500-600).

That way in a couple of years you may possibly get...

BEL's, Lessers, Mojaves, Lesser Bee's, Lesser Spiders, Pastel Lessers, Bumble Bee's, Pastels, Spiders, Killer Bee's, Super Pastels, Spinner Blasts, Spinners, Pinstripes...

I might've missed a few. But this is what I would do in your position. :)

I'd forget about the normal female and put the money towards a nicer male than a mojave. Just me.

I'd scratch the extra male and go 4 females instead. An animal you might also consider is a fire. Fireflies are awesome.

Agree on that. Towards this end I have obtained a nice pair of unrelated fires & I'm picking up a 1.0 superpastel at the end of this month; fireflies are really special royals & I'm so looking forward to growing them up and putting the super to the female fire. I have a female pewter in mind for the male fire but he will probably get put to a female normal the year before that one comes together. Be interested to see what happens with the normal that I have in mind, she started off looking bog standard but is getting cleaner & brighter with every shed + has an interesting light pattern on her head-I'm not saying that she's anything other than normal but should get some nice looking babies.

Yeah, I haven't seen any combo involving the fire that wasn't awesome. I'm hoping to produce vanilla creams in a few years (picked up a female vanilla last year) along with a lot of other things.

I totally agree with you guys, If it was for the Jigsaw and BEL, i wouldn't have picked Mojo.

Just my opinions, but #1 when starting off I've started with mostly males when it comes to dominant ( spider, and pins ) , and co-domanant. I did this for selective breeding as my seasons go. That way the quality of my hold backs would dictate the later quality of my lines. As for a bumble bee I'd say make it yourself. In my opinion a pastel female is something any breeder can't have too many of. How many pastel morph combos can you think of? So you might as well have a few pastel girls.

So anyway thats just my opinion.

Sell your spider, and use that money along with your 1500 to build a female group. Save for the next 2-3 years to purchase a double or triple male morph.

Well....you should be picking what you want.... Females first, you can buy males later you will have @ least 2 years to find a male. So spending 1500 on females I would pick up a double like a jigsaw or something like that... Or hell I saw a male pied on king snake for 800, and a het pied female that was already 700 grams for 500... make pieds soon.... and pay for other adventures....

It might be smart to purchase some 100% het females like a 300 het pied and a 300-400 het clown. I would probably get a bumble be female as well. Bees grow fast. The het males are cheap and will only get cheaper or you can save up and get a pie and clown male.

MMCA, keep your pastel and spider and use your 1500 to get a few female morphs of your choice.

if you get three female lessers, for example, and you eventually breed them all to your spider male, youll have a greater chance of getting lesser bees and producing enough of them to keep a few and possibly sell a few.
