Question about holding
So I was reading a post a while back and I saw someone had mentioned about not wrapping a snake around your neck for a holding position ever. Then I started to think what really is the big deal I mean OBVIOUSLY you should not with huge snakes but he said even a Ball Python you should do it because of the fear of heights yada yada yada... But i just want to hear your guys thoughts on if you hold your guys snakes around your neck and if not where do you hold when there not slithering through your fingers etc...

Re: Question about holding
Not sure about the height issue but I for one will never hold a snake of any kind around my neck. For the simple reason that they are a wild animal. Are they docile? Yes, most are. But I for one will never hold a wild animal near my face. Some will prolly disagree but that's just my $0.02.

hahaha a bp take down a grown man wow now that is a good one lol.. I mean i can see if your not paying attention and you dont feel your self getting light headed and losing oxygen to your brain then sure it can be dangerous but i always always am making sure my breathing is staying normal if they are wrapped around your neck... And for the whole biting the face yea i agree that is not a situation that would turn out nicely but then again a dog can go from licking your face to biting your face so i guess you have to trust your animal but i understand the cautious i just wanted to see everyone elses responses

Re: Question about holding
I do not put a snake around my neck for any reason, no matter what kind of snake it is. Even my corns do not go anywhere near my face and neck. Because one day I might have larger snakes that could be dangerous if handled/carried this way and I don't ever want to get into the habit of putting a snake around my neck. Also, I just don't see any point to it.

Re: Question about holding
i say if you trust your snake and it trust you its fine. mine loves to and has no probloms. that is somthing i wouldnt want to do with a burm or retic though. the biggest i had around my neck was a 7 foot red tail. and that was probly a bad idea. but i trusted it. and it trusted me. but thats my opinion. and i had four guys with me. so it was all good. and besides it was huge. so it was the best way for me to hold it. :P

Re: Question about holding
I let my bp on my neck! I don't feel threatened by them! You are stronger than them and can pull them off!

Re: Question about holding
i would never do it with anything with some good size too it. thats just dumb. but a 500g BP aint gona do much. as far as a bite in the face, ya i agree but, my girl has never struck at me and wouldnt do much damage is she did cuz shes so small. i do it cuz i dont plan on owning any large pythons anytime soon

Re: Question about holding
My only fear about letting a BP wrap my neck is I am more afraid that it will fall off due to they are not great climbers. I would feel real bad if it was to fall.
On the other note, don't laugh about being "taken down" by a BP. T here was a man with his BP around his neck & as he walked down some stairs he had slipped and fallen knocking himself out. The impact caused his BP to constrict and he was found dead.
I know this would be one of those rare cases. crazy huh. They had said if he didn't have the snake around his neck he would still be alive.

Re: Question about holding
My roomate has put my old 3000g+ ball python around his neck and let it squeeze. I was telling him not to, but it was actually pretty funny. Obviously nothing happened, and if he did pass out, id probably save him. lol

Re: Question about holding
I don't think it's anything to worry about with a Ball Python, but it can be a bad habit and the larger the snake the larger the risk.

Re: Question about holding
Yea im not saying any large snake whats so ever but like i said i just wanted to see what you guys do with your snake if there not around your neck or hands lol (This sounds so incredibly wrong lol)

Re: Question about holding
I do whatever my snake feels like doing. Most of them just like to run though my hands :]

Re: Question about holding
I haven't had any issues allowing my BP to ride around on my shoulders or around my neck. However, I ALWAYS keep at least one hand on him just incase he starts to slip. I'm terrified of him falling, so I'm very careful. He doesn't seem to be scared while on my shoulders, sometimes he feels a little too relaxed lol.

Re: Question about holding
we let ours around are neck....some like it...some don't. Elizabeth LOVES to hang on my sons neck and then she locks her tail around her head....she stays like that for a long time and they watch tv and play video games together. If my 9 yr old is strong enough to take a snake off....pretty much anyone can. Just start at the tail.

Is Elizabeth good at Modern Warfare 2? What's her gamertag?

Re: Question about holding
Mine was around my neck only 10 minutes ago. It's back in its hide now. Perhaps because it's only 39" and 800g, but I see no problem in having it around my neck. I always keep one hand on it to keep it from falling. Neck time is usually only a few minutes. Holding on my lap/arm can go up to an hour.

Re: Question about holding
I don't have a problem with letting my baby Nago onto my neck. He only does it when I'm sitting at my computer chair with him, and he doesn't go far.
None of my others have ever tried to get onto my neck, so it isn't an issue with them.
As far as the biting thing goes, I trust Nago completely, he's never struck at anything but his dinner. On the other hand, my husbands little monster Mystic, raised himself off my hands for no reason and tried to bite my face off. It's a good thing I was holding him down far enough that he missed by at least a foot.

Re: Question about holding
personally, i let my Male hang out on my neck everyday.
he likes it, i dont mind, he is the most docile pet i have ever had, and he loves to be taken out and held.
the only fear i have is that if he ever had the power to cut blood-flow(which i highly doubt) i would be afraid to hurt him to get him off me, i have no fear he can harm me at all.
call me ignorant if you wish, but i just dont see it as a possibility.
we both like him on my neck, sometimes he wont move for 15 mins or so.
would i try this with a larger snake? no but a 4' ball that weighs a few pounds, why not, he even gives me kisses

Re: Question about holding
Yeah, no 100-200 lb. human has ever been killed by a 5 lb. snake. No, I wouldn't put my ball python in a bed with a baby... but strangulation is way down the list for reasoning.
Some of my snakes are squirmy and do like to skydive. So I'll wear a necklace when I'm carrying them around--a chain gives them something to hold onto, and then they usually stay put.

Re: Question about holding
My balls are lways around my neck. as far as constricting goes, it feels like a reallygood massage.

Where did you hear this story? I very seriously doubt that it is true. I wish people wouldn't spread stories like this unless they can document that it did in fact happen.
