Moss in ball python cage?
Is this a easier way to help keep a tank humid in a glass tank ?
Re: Moss in ball python cage?
cover the top if its screen with a damp towel? Get a good substrate that holds water to raise humidity.
Re: Moss in ball python cage?
If you are using a lamp, getting rid of it will significantly raise your humidity level.
Another option would be switching to a plastic tub :)

The moss is fine, but as you have noticed, not very effective.

Getting rid of the lights will improve your situation dramatically. Lights suck the humidity right out of your enclosure. Kaorte's advice is right on target!
And no you don't need to keep a light. Balls spend days in termite mounds and nights out hunting. They do not need lights. Get an under tank heater that covers 1/2 to 2/3rds of you tank bottom. Put it on a thermostat. Cover the top like Kaorte suggested
Re: Moss in ball python cage?
Now for a 40 gal long what size uth would i need ?
Re: Moss in ball python cage?
a 40G long i think would be a little big for a ball :P
But if u look on it. Depends what u get it says what size tank it for
There the 10-20G
and the 30-40G ones
Re: Moss in ball python cage?
yes my father likes to bu is y a little over what is needed but the two hides branch and bark i have fills up much of it
Re: Moss in ball python cage?
If you choose to use a UTH you need to have something controlling its temperature output. A temporary rheostat will work until you can get a reptile thermostat.
Leaving the UTH running wide open can burn your snake.
Re: Moss in ball python cage?
Yea i alrdy looked around for some thermostats prob wont have the c ash for a week or 2 so i guess ill have to deal for now lol
Re: Moss in ball python cage?
I have moss in a little bowl. Fill it with water, enough to get the moss really soggy. That will help put humidity in the cage.
Re: Moss in ball python cage?
When you do get an under tank heater, inch the water dish closer to the hot side until it is in the right place that will keep the proper humidity. I started doing that about a month ago and it is the greatest. I imagine that you have something to measure the humidity, you certainly do not want a wet snake.
Re: Moss in ball python cage?
yes i keep my humidity between 50-60 but it is kind of a hassle when i have school or work all day sometimes it will drop to about 40-45 after a long day
Re: Moss in ball python cage?
Question with the uth's my tank is on a wood stand this wound now allow me to use the uth correct or does it not get that hot
