Re: albino asf
No such thing as an albino ASF.
-
Re: albino asf
It's just a fawn colored asf. You'll see black eyes and pink eyes and that's pretty normal for them.

Re: albino asf
I would selectively breed the litter if it is possible and see what comes of it. I wish I could get some ASFR's

Just because you've never seen one I wouldn't dismiss it. This ASF may not be albino, but I believe that they have been out there somewhere sometime.

No, they haven't. In rodents most define albino as one with no pigment at all. RED (not pink) eyes, and 100% white (no color at all in the body). By that definition, they don't exist yet.

Re: albino asf
But who is to say that this anomaly can not arise? how did we get albinos from other animals.... Line breeding? and maybe a FEW w/c.... I'm sure its possible just keep trying. If its not oh well. if it is that's pretty dang cool IMO.

Re: albino asf
A few litters after my original group from Mike C. I got some PED (pink eye diluted) and since I have some reduced markings in several litters with pink, ruby and dark eyes. Keep breeding and you'll pop out the "wild type" aka solid black with black feet, ears and tails.:gj: Good luck and have fun.

Just because they haven't shown up in captivity doesn't mean they don't exist.

Mammals have litters, reptiles lay clutches of eggs.
ASFs only have PED (Pink Eyed Dilutes) there have been no true Albinos to date.

i think you know what i meant....

Re: albino asf
Somebody ( I think in a previous discussion ) said that the red eye dilutes are not genetic. That they just "pop up" in litters.
Not so. I have 2 trios that are red eye dilutes, and produce typically 11 baby litters with 75% to 90% being red eye dilutes.

Re: albino asf
Paradox Albino?
Good luck with the selective breeding project.
-
Chances are, somewhere in the world, there are probably albino ASFs. :)
The one in this picture, is just an Argente, which is a diluted version of agouti.
It is recessive. If you breed it back to one of the parents, you should get more of them.
Or, if you let it have a litter, and breed it back to one of it's offspring, you should also get more argentes.
-
I have been trying to breed the pink-eyed-dilutes for almost 2 years now... I have eventually gotten to the point of having nothing but pink-eye-dilutes in the litter... unfortunately, my breeders have gotten old now that they are only producing less than 12 babies... last litter they only gave me 5! So they are going to be retired. It's a sad day in my house. I love these guys! I'm fighting my husband on having them fed off. I want them to live out their natural lives...

Yep. If you breed an argente, with an agouti, you should get an entire litter of carriers, but no argente (you may notice some agouti ASFs in this litter with a lighter brown colour though). If you breed a carrier, to an argente, you should get something like 50% argente, and 50% agouti.
If you breed an argente, with an argente, you should get 75%+ argente in the litter.
