WOW, fast weight gain

Hey everyone,
Ijust had to share to see if anyone else is experiencing the same. all the weights i've logged are empty, right after a big poop. i weighted goliath on 2/11 at 194g, today he's at 270g empty. i weighted anne b. on 2/9 at 2188g, yesterday at 2327g empty. i haven't weighted the other two since they have not pooped yet but i think that's a big increase especially for goliath, what do you think?

the 2188 to 2327 is a pretty big change but the 194-270 seems like normal baby ball python weight gain.

That hatchlings that I've raised up seem to gain anywhere from 50-150 grams a month.

my one girl is 1300 grams empty and she a little over a year

Those are some decent gains. My daughters 14 month old female spider is just over 1700 grams on 2/19, I got a normal female 2 julys ago ( 18 months) she was being starved. she was 749 grams, by the end of the first year I had her at 2700 grams, she breed for me and laid 9 good eggs. I also weigh her on 2/19 at 3960 grams. she is one of my snakes that when I open her tub, I pull it with a snake hook. she will come out as soon as it's open 18 to 24 inches mouth wide open head going side to side. I wish all my snakes had a feeding response like that. O, we named her Miss Piggy!

Both are large gains, but I wonder if you zerod out your scale? Make sure your scale is reading correctly and then see if they still have gained that much weight. If they have, then you have got yourself 2 little piggies!

What are you feeding these guys and how often?

smith, i always make sure to zero out the scale. i even checked their weight twice just to make sure. goliath ate a 60g rat on 2/15 and a 57g rat on 2/21. anne b ate a 150g rat on 2/15 and a 104g rat on 2/21. those are the feedings between the weights. goliath will eat anything you give him and anne b got back on feeding on 1/31 plus i've been pairing her with some boys :)

Have a het that was 117g on 10/10..weighed her tonight empty 787g :)

My male Mojave was put on 70 grams in past two weeks. I feed every five days.

I would watch out feeding Anne that often, i did that with my girl cause she was ALWAYS hungry and it just threw off her feeding schedule and she wouldn't eat for 3 weeks after that. So now its just a medium to large rat evey 2 weeks.

Steve, i thought that at her size it would be better to feed smaller meals weekly?

Well you have to consider that since your girl is over 2000 gram, as my girl is (2400 now), she really only needs to eat every 10-14 days. Keeping it spaced out will give her plenty of time to digest since she is so old, she really doesn't need the food for growth, just nutrition. Just a suggestion :gj:.

Babies gain weight quick but adults don't! You must be giving some good meals!

Thanks Steve, I'll definitely start doing my research. You do make a good point and i only want whats best for my bp's so i'll take this into consideration.

Your doing everything fine and i see no problems with anything your doing, seems like you've done your research already. I just made the same mistake until i realized, even if they WILL eat, doesn't mean they should when it comes to adult ball pythons.

thanks, i'm going to feel bad feeding the others and not her when she's on a bi-week.
