visible difference between pastels and super pastels
Hi, I want to get a super pastel but from all the animals I have seen online, I cannot tell the difference between a super pastel and just a nice looking ordinary pastel. Can somebody help me with clarifying the visible differences? Thank you

if you're looking at a super pastel you'll know. They have VERY reduced black pigment, and almost a white head. Their yellow is out of this world.

With some lower end specimens it can be hard to tell but if you're looking at a nice one you'll know. I'll see if i can find some more.

Mark Mandic (markus jayne ball pythons) has some GREAT ones; http://ballpython.ca/collection/supe...er_pastel.html

blushing is way more intense on a super, the blushing on the head is a dead give away.

Thanks for the post gave me a reason to pull a couple girls out I have not photographed in a long time.

Here are 2 of my Late '08Super Pastel Females.
The first 2 pictures are of them as hatchlings. The second 2 pics are them as of 15 minutes ago both over 900 grams.

Hope this gives you some comparison young and older!

When held side by side they are easy to tell apart. the colors and amount of yellow even on good pastels doesn't come close even as babys to what super have, The heads are way more washed out and the blushing is white and not yellow like on a normal Pastel.
I know you said a nice pastel but here is mom

And here is another pic of the sisters at about a year and a half later. They are pictured with my Ruppel Pastel male, he's the one in the back with a bulls-eye about half way down his back.

From what I have learned/seen/experienced of the pastel gene breed into other morphs, you learn a lot from the head pattern (look at the heads of a pastel clown vs. a killer clown, I would post photos of all my killer clowns but my Kodak just isn't working, or I don't own any). Either way, great snakes.
