    MustBeSatan's Ballin' Snake Room!
Even though I built it in September last year, I realized I have still yet to post my rack! So I figured I'd give everyone a real special treat and show you all my apartment storage clos........ er... snake room *shifty eyes*

    http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/2862/snakeroom.jpg

This is the view from the door. That's pretty much the whole room right there. There is a side across from the rack, but there is just storage stuff piled there, so I won't show you that. The cardboard box with the painters tape no longer holding it closed is my christmas tree.

This is my rack! It was the first (and only) rack I have built. It's not much to look at, but I'm very proud of it. It suits my needs perfectly, and can accommedate 3 sizes of bins (6 qt on the top shelf, two 29 qt bins per the other shelves or one 50 (I think) qt bin sideways on the other shelves).

The rack is built with black melamine (<3 Home Depot for carrying it in black). Hotspots are 3" flexwatt belly heat on each shelf, and there is an oil filled heater in the room which maintains a toasty 83 degrees very nicely.

I know it's not the most impressive setup in the world, but I put so much time researching, planning, building, and caring for it that its like a child to me. Hope you enjoyed the tour ^.^

I wish I was handy enough to build my own rack... One of these days!

    Very nice rack system!

Congrats on providing a quality environment for your snakes. While it is not much to look at, it doesn't need to be as long as you are pleased with it, and the snakes thrive. Great work.

It looks very professional. How much did that cost you by the way to make?
I think it is nice to have all your snakes in a centralized place that is not spread out all over, (like mine right now), and which are not cluttering up your living space.
    Well done.

That rack is really nice actually. I like how its tucked away, out of view and you can make it dark very easily. I bet It controls temps well too.

My only question/concern is: Will/could that flexwatt every become a fire hazard because its in a small in closed space? I ask, only because of where its located.
    It's a really nice system though!:gj:

    Well done.

Thanks! Materials for the rack itself cost about 90 dollars I think, plus flexwatt (which I had to have shipped across the country) and thermostat (which I am in the process of replacing with a Herpstat ND... It's in the mail!)

I had to laugh when I read the part about not cluttering up my living space... The snakes may be neat and orderly, but the fish tank, sudan plated tank, kingsnake tank, cockatiel cage, hermit crab tank, and betta bowls are spread out. ^.^

I worry a little bit about this as well, but I do have the rack hooked up to a thermostat (see above) AND a rheostat backup, so I think I've taken all the precautions I can. Smoke detector is on the ceiling literally right outside the door, so if (god forbid) something did start to smoke in there we'd know right away. If you have any suggestions for improving my fire safety I welcome them!!

Thanks all for the nice feedback!

Haha, after I posted this pic I wondered if someone would comment on two different colours of substrate...

I use Carefresh, and it just so happens that the fancy white expensive stuff (er, slightly more expensive anyways) was on sale for less than the regular stuff last week. So I finished what I had left of the old stuff in the bins with the greyish Carefresh and then did the others with white. I kind of like the look of the white, but I'm not conviced it's worth the extra 5 dollars a bag yet ;)

lol... The prebuilt racks are very nice, but there's a certain sense of pride when you've built it yourself.

The price is a big plus too ;)
