okay help?
okay so i have a very gracious enclosure for my 2ft 8in girl and i just picked up an 09' male measuring at 11in i have him in a 10gal right now but i was wondering if i could house them together? the cage is very large for this girl and has plenty of room for the two of them. will they be fine if i add two exrta hides and separate them for feeding.

Re: okay help?
simple answer no... but for purposes this is why you shouldn't do it underweight breeding, stress, not eating. only to name a few things

Re: okay help?

Re: okay help?
I second what Monty said. It is breeding season, a 09 male can breed this season. If he locks up with your female, you would either need to expect a clutch of eggs, or an egg bound female. Either is an ordeal to deal with.
Also, since you just picked him up you should QT him for an appropriate time period.
Edit: Putting them together because someone says "prove me wrong" would be a very stupid idea. Please, keep them in two enclosures.

Re: okay help?
I would hate to be the one to prove him wrong. I'd feel bad for my snakes.

Re: okay help?
I concur with MOST of the crowd here, they do need seperate tanks, tubs, whatever you wish to use!!!!!:snake:

What a stupi wonderfull reason to tell someone to do something that could have serious consequences for their pets.
Did you read the part where he just got the male and so should be following quarantine?
If you want to do something risky with your own animals we can't stop you but please don't advise others to do so without at least explaining to them what the risks might be so they can make an informed choice.

Well lets see why someone SHOULD NOT listen to you .Well you do not have a clue how to properly care for any pet.In your thread about your hairless male rat getting beat up by your female rat proves this.Next i tend to believe you do not even have 1 snake let alone your "list".Why i say this? We are still waiting for pics of these snakes.I could go on but will not make this a 20 page response. So basicly you DO NOT know what you are talking about and are only going to cause someone problems. So please stop trying to give advice until you learn certain procedures yourself ;)

Re: okay help?
There is a long list of reasons NOT to house them together, some of which have already been mentioned.
As far as a good reason TO house them together? There isn't one.
Since you already have two enclosures, do yourself and your snakes a favor, and keep them separate, like a responsible keeper does.
Sure there are people who keep snakes together all the time, sure they may successfully do so for many years. The question you need to ask yourself is this...Is the very real risk worth the tiny little gain? To me the answer is no.

Do you know anyone that could help you build a rack system for your snakes?

Heck what do you need a bed for :P.It can be done :gj:

Re: okay help?
It would be possible if they were much closer in size. I know it is a little rare for ball pythons, but the can be carnivorous, and I wouldn't want to see you new little guy get eaten. I have kept some of mine together, after I quarantined them, fed them, and did a long supervised introduction. However, that still does not mean nothing will ever go wrong. Just because I have done it, does not mean that I would recommend it.

Re: okay help?
Bsash, but why risk something going wrong one day? would it not be better to just avoid any grief?

with a little creativity you can have a bed, dresser, tv stand and rack all in one. talk about a space saver:gj:
just modify a bed like this one

I said I have done it, not that I would recommend doing it. For me it was a temporary solution to a broken cage, once it was fixed they were once again separated. Not that it matters now, I currently have no snakes.

Get a 3 or 4 tub rack, put a lamp on top of it and call it a night stand...
or get one of these for your bed...

I have a bed, computer desk, a TV, night stand, gecko tank, incubator, AND a 9 slot rack in my 10x9ft bedroom with floorspace still available. It can be done! :)
